Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?

Wish they would stop offering me these super cheap EOL chromebooks. They are kinda hard to resist. Must be an incredible surplus of them to sell that cheap. As long as keyboard works, dont find them particularly hard to convert via mrchromebox. Got another. HP 14-SMB which wasnt easy to get info so ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?

Well rainy day so played with it. Think the AMD E350 is officially dead. It did boot once and BookwormPup had too new of a kernel for the video card it used. Got this really low resolution screen with NO other options. But after that when I push the power button it flashes and immediately turns off....

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?

Ok, my old Sony stand alone dvdplayer went to electronics heaven last night. It owed me nothing. I was trying to remember how old, its at a minimum 15year old, I remember buying it new. Before it, I never had one go more than two year. To finish the movie, first tried the converted Dell chromebook w...

Re: How to Use BookwormPup to Run Amazon Kindle

The iso of BookwormDog I created with Waydroid and Kindle app included, mostly to see if I could, I havent uploaded it anywhere. Probably should just make a new clean version if i am going to do it. i have quite bit experience with it now. Still considering. But read my thread I linked to in Debian ...

@tosim Yes, I think I was at the point of trying to figure how to get the Amazon Kindle books for it. I need to revisit this again as well. Thanks, I'll let you know of my progress. @mouldy I looked at your link to do this as an Android device. I'm very inexperienced for all of this yet but still w...

Re: How to blisUse BookwormPup to Run Amazon Kindle

I am seriously debating just posting a remastered iso of BookwormDog with Waydroid and even the kindle app built in. I just dont want to maintain it and deal with bugs and such. Honestly I even tried it burned to a dvd and that works, not super well but does work, well on second boot, you do need to...

Re: How to Use BookwormPup to Run Amazon Kindle

That older 1809 version 64 bit Tiny10 is around 1GB and will run latest Kindle4PC. And if run in a virtual machine, suppose way to go to get more functionality than WINE currently provides. The Kindle for Android app does work fine. Waydroid has a learning curve but works fine, used on BookwormDOG e...

Here is one for version 2.05 from 7 years ago. https://github.com/eugenesan/azilink/releases This version is interesting in that its been converted to an Android Studio project. I played some with Android Studio. That is big learning curve, and didnt put lot time into it. Not sure how useful the num...

@mouldy Think the best thing ever done was figuring out how to permanently disable Windows updates. Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?

The primary market for Chromebooks has always been schools. The last thing that school boards want is a machine that can be pried open by kids and stripped of any removable parts. The more stuff you can solder down the better. What hobbyists may eventually do with the used machines is not a big con...

@mouldy Most of the duet/refind and clover stuff you can download from the web won't work OOTB, you've got to jerk it around first. For your HP, the duer/refind that I posted should be plug and play, the clover/refind one is only for MBR bios. Took the back off my Lenovo 100s-14ibr cloudbook today,...

@mouldy It is possible to fork a branch to your own repo on GitHub while this link is available. Probably not, I have no skills to check and update the apk. Re: Puppy Linux on a old Netbook Hasee SD - Card

I think your problem maybe that you need to create or recreate a fresh mdos partition table on the SDcard using gparted. Create the partition table, then create a ext2 or ext3 partition. Then either copy the files or use the installer. Then guessing you want to use Grub4Dos bootloader installer. I h...

I wondered if way to do this with simple soldering iron since several bits that have to be unsoldered. course you have some of that little mesh ribbon stuff that sucks up solder, then doesnt matter so much. @mouldy I can tell you from experience booting from an external usb SATA SSD that its about same speed as the soldered eMMC drive. I will also mention the latest kindle for pc WILL run in both Tiny10 (the older smallest 64bit version) and windowsxlite.com "micro 11". So you dont need mega bloat to run the app. I do hope somebody modifies WINE to be able to run current Kindle4PC but could take some time. WINE is always...

Re: Using NVME drives on old desktop computers.

This is interesting to me. IMHO, the nvme can make a difference on a marginal computer. The 256GB nvme + adapter that I replaced m.2 wifi card in Dell Chromebook 3120 made all difference. I had converted it with mrchromebox, then thankfully after installing the nvme+adapter, the mrchromebox bios imm...

Small update, on BookwormPup64 you will need to install libssl1.1. I just keep a copy around. You may need to look for it in an older version 64bit Debian. Buster? Or older Puppy. The easytether people havent updated anything since like 2018. Its quite a popular app so not sure why. But other than f...

Kindle for PC v1.30 is long time ago and no longer can do current DRM Amazon uses. Kindle for PC v1.38 to v1.40 can run in WINE and can partially work. I have had some books refuse and tell me I need to upgrade. Thus my interest in Waydroid. The current Kindle for PC is v2.34 or something like that....

Azilink: opensoure internet through your phone

Ok, noticed the Arch Linux wiki page I said explained Azilink at the beginning of my easytether thread , now no longer does. Shame, they had a good recipe. Azilink originated to give tethering capability to early Android phones with no native tethering app. But works on phones where the phone compan...
