Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
For a more 'day-to-day' mouse, I've had 2 of these over a 6½ year period:- https://electricalreviews.co.uk/sandstrom-smwlhyp15-wireless-blue-trace-mouse-review/ You can free-wheel the scroll-wheel, choose between 2 DPI settings, and it's generally speaking a very comfortable mouse. These are, ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
Huh, quite a time warp on ebay for keyboards and mice if you go used. And yes you can get adapters to go from ps2 to usb and from usb to ps2. Though they have disclaimer that the usb keyboard mouse has to support use of the adapter. Assume any ps2 keyboard/mouse can go usb with that adapter. Its ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
I'm not a fan of cordless. I still use a corded dell mouse keyboard from early 2000. If it gives up. I'll be searching for the same model on ebay. A good quality used keyboard is how I choose an inexpensive mouse/keyboard :D There for a while I would look for inexpensive Dell, Lenovo, etc mice on ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
First of all, I wanna say I tried dozens of mice (from expensive, to cheap ones). In the end, the best results with https://www.trust.com/en/corporate/media?searchquery=20718 It is the first which I can use all the included buttons (5) in a really useful way. For me is the best, but of course, it ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
I remember some years ago, had inexpensive wireless mouse that ate batteries. Needed new batteries every week or two. I was not impressed. Forget details now, but annoying enough, that it became a wired mouse. Modern wireless mice, yes cheapies, the batteries tend to last fine, lucky if the mouse ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
Ok the Duck says 70 GBP is around US$90. Ouch. Probably have a time getting me to pay that for a whole computer let alone a mouse. My worry would not be what it was like new out of the box, sure its nice enough new out of box or there would be lot returns, but its longevity. Ruins your day when a ...

Re: How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
If you're near a large university, they probably have a surplus property outlet. It will be full of computer stuff, especially hard disk drives. Pallets of them. And it's all priced to move. I saw what must have been an electron microscope, virtually complete. But think about whether you'd rather ...

How do you choose an inexpensive computer mouse?
Just lost another mouse this morning. Its a noname wired mouse, the scroll wheel works perfect, the cursor didnt develop a mind of its own and wander all over the screen. Its comfortable to hold. Nope, I just can no longer click on anything. Less than year old. So using wireless mouse I have been ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
@mouldy not sure why they bring as much as they do but seems any computer with the N5095 celeron brings minimum of $75 It's a 4 core with a Passmark v10=4085, pretty fast for a laptop. That is going to be a real "Frankenputer", although I've worked on a HP desktop tower that was in fact a laptop ...

Ok, not sure why they bring as much as they do but seems any computer with the N5095 celeron brings minimum of $75 shipped price in working condition. Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
I've looked through a bunch of old machines for another place to use my mpcie-nvme adapter cable other than in the Wyse thin client. 1. All the Lenovos and older HPs are out because their wifi adapters are whitelisted. 2. If you have to completely dismantle the machine to find the wifi adapter, it ...

No good deed goes unpunished. My friend FINALLY got around to trying the SGIN. Both connect easily, she likes that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iLjqPpZ83M Close as I could come, honestly all the Asus EEEpc videos, didnt find one using the mpcie to msata adapter. Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Just looking, yea the Asus adapter probably the cheapest and best option. Saw another one with ribbon but its just an "extender" meaning the mpcie slot better natively support msata or else you are using the extender for wifi card or whatever the slot is designed for. Its an extender, not an adapter ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Ok, was curious enough just ordered a mpcie to msata card, one of those sold for Asus EEEpc cause seriously couldnt find any others, that one the Chinese guy used on his HP Stream is a rare bird, least far as being sold in USA. Who knows how universal, may actually only work on that old Asus, but ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Ok, the native card was a Broadcom B43. The one from the thin client was an Atheros. So after re-enabling wifi on the D430, booted Puppy with the Atheros. It saw it and was able to try using it. I didnt set up a hotspot to see if it could actually use it, but it was able to use it to search so ...

@mouldy Do you have another wifi card that you could plug into the D430? That would tell you if it's using a whitelist. Bingo. Just thought of that thin client. Has a mpcie wifi shorty card but that should work. Plus top on it wasnt screwed down so no digging to get to it. Thin clients and NUCs ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Found this old 2012 thread. Yea looks like Dell was rather anal about controlling how one used the mpcie slots. Doesnt surprise me as they get testy if you use a non-Dell power supply. Jan 11, 2012 I spent a couple hours reading BIOS modding posts. I did some practice by flashing my old Dell d430 ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Been reading more and I am starting to suspect the reason the mpcie to nvme adapter didnt work is because this is earlier generation mpcie. Remember the D430 has PATA bus interface. Guessing this adapter I bought, might well work on say that first generation HP Stream 13 in the video, which is ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
This whole exercise is a mystery to me. Some business in China was able to design and manufacture these cables without any clearly defined purpose or target market, then sell the occasional unit to hobbyists like us, and ship them halfway around the world for almost nothing. How is there any profit ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Ok some batteries cant be soldered... Its never great idea, they usually spot weld leads to a battery. But anyway, after ruining one of those coin batteries I just taped the heck out of leads to the next one. This was good enough. Settings held on reboot. So with wlan and wwan OFF, I still got the ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
It looks like I can disable wlan and wwan in bios. However looks like it needs a new cmos battery, it reverts to default on reboot. But yea if it expects a wifi card or wwan card and finds a something else, its no doubt confused. May even have only some whitelisted cards it accepts.

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Read how I did this in the Daedalus Starter Kit project. May 29, 2024 Thats great, but like I say, the D430 just blinks its lights at me with the adapter + nvme ssd. It doesnt post or anything. I took out the nvme and it boots normally, but that doesnt help. The problem isnt that the nvme doesnt ...

Re: How to go into developer mode in chromebook with bad keyboard?
Cant win them all. Got the mPCIE to m.2 nvme adapter, the one with a ribbon. Nope, the D430 not having anything to do with it. Tried it in wwan and wlan slots, and just flashes lights, wont boot. So Clover never has a chance. The Dell somehow can tell that the correct card is not in the slot. Now ...
