Re: Grub2config replaces Grub4Dos: Win 7 Laptop Issue

vtpup wrote: Tue Aug 16, 2022 3:33 pm

The drive is GPT and Legacy boot is enabled in BIOS.

Your PC may boot up if the UEFI (not Legacy) Boot enabled.

The Grub2Config does not support Legacy Boot under GPT.
The document says:
MBR boot loader
Install boot loader so that legacy MBR bootable.
Disabled if the partition table is 'GPT'

Clarity This is nice. But the usage of the Super Grub2 menu is to be shown at the top post of this thread. On that Super Grub2 menu. (your image of it) Select the entry at the top. Detect and show boot methods. It will search on all drives for what it finds for bootable OS installs. A new menu will...

I have noticed that when it comes up, the standard GRUB2 menu appears for a split-second, then Shino's new Menu immediately appears. If you install boot loader using Grub2config on a legacy BIOS PC, boot up process is like this: grub.mbr --> /grldr --> /menu.lst --> /boot.pup/grub/i386-pc/core.img ...

I really want to find a way to disable automounting of my NTFS partitions on Precise.

Do you mean the drive icons at the bottom of the desktop?
If so, Main Menu > System > Puppy Event Manager
'ROX Icons' tab, check off 'Show desktop icons for each DRIVE'.

You figured out that the partition the ISO is on, has to first be mounted, so the Frugalinstaller can read from it. This is one common issue of Puppy Linux, not auto mounting drives. Frugalinstaller is not well documented, but it does not require to mount the .iso file. As I mentioned, wipe out the...

@kylerickards
The sda5 partition seems a 'logical'. You can remove it and remake 'primary' partition as sda2, using GParted.
Putting it aside, the Mint is now running on your PC?
If so, no problem to continue next step, frugalinstaller and grub2config.

Re: How to save settings on Live USB?

@Cairn
Easiest way is to Install Puppy on another USB drive. Fossapup has 'StickPup' can be found in the 'Setup' menu.
1. Boot from your Live USB.
2. Stick in a new USB drive.
3. Run 'StickPup'.
4. Select the source type 'this'.
5. Select the new ISB drive, and go on.

@kylerickards, as Grey says, you need to re-install Mint with 'Erase Disk' option. As for installing Puppy, you can manually do and write /boot/grub/custom.cfg. But there may be another problem. Your Grub2 of Mint may not show the boot menu, that is 'hidden'. To show the boot menu, you need another ...
