Re: What's happened to Puppy?

You can't remove browsers from the equation as so much is online nowadays and tahrpup will struggle running a modern browser. It's hardware ending my 32-browsing. Tahr is still a trooper with the Chromium 65 dependencies. fossapup can run on my modern desktop where as tahrpup doesn't even boot. (th...

Re: how to safely remove USB?

A USB thumbdrive is 'practically' a disk. A disk can have multiple partitions. You have to unmount ALL disk partitions for a particular disk to safely remove it. Thumbdrives usually have 1 partition. If so, remove it by: Right-clicking the USB desktop icon and selecting the unmount partition option ...

Like Vivaldi on my FP64, today I installed the latest stable .deb from the vivaldi web site but later realized the audio from youtube videos would not play

Hope that is not the same incompatibility as Firefox.

the xenialpups were built nearly exactly the same using the same recipe and there's just a 6mb difference between the 32bit and 64bit.

What explains the Android support differential?

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

This specific puplet with Xfce that you use is not small because it's a 32-bit one, but because you're comparing it to much newer releases, or releases with more built-in packages. There is some separation between the overall distro and the alt-DEs that you can see when they are landed in alphabets...

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

dimkr I think I completely understood the first time. The part I think that makes you think I didn't is the discussion of 32-bit distros on 64. That idea is probably jumbled up in the experience of limited availability, e.g., I have not seen 64-Tahr XFCE, and if it existed, I have grave doubts it w...

Re: I like the Vivaldi browser

i still think peebee's chromium 32bit builds smoke this into the ground. Not sure i need all the bling and some features are not needed at all. It's largely aesthetic, and sometimes package completion. For example, one of my Chromiums crashes when I print to .pdf, but Chromium is always cobbled tog...

Re: I like the Vivaldi browser

As you so bold I will share my opinion: Puppy should have no default browser. Each distro should have its own page with a list of compatible downloadable browsers for that distro, like the Quickpet, including .sfs. Pale Moon should be included in the distro .iso as a spot .sfs, an excellent lesson i...

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

dimkr point recognized. The comparison you quoted are puplets, X-Tahr and Battleshooter Xenial minus Libreoffice + Whisker, both minus builtin browsers. My X-Tahr also has the modest dependencies to run current browsers. The differences between vanilla JWM Tahr & Xenial themselves are significa...

Re: What's happened to Puppy?

But why is this? Let's face it, it doesn't take any more resources to view a JPG image or play an MP3 file now than it did 20 years ago. Have things grown the way they have purely down to accommodating increasingly bloated Browsers and Web sites? I must admit my computing needs are fairly simple th...

I believe in the general subject, but it requires security expertise to understand.

Wal-Mart does not like my spoofed user agents. I can use an older Firefox (authentic) than a newer Chromium-base. How do they know?

@jfw01 you are writing .xz created .pet files create faulty output?

My .sfs are usually all .deb, still hit-or-miss.

These hiccups highlight complexity.

PaDS works, though it demands specific conditions.

If I take your inspiration for a low-fi switcher, this is the efficiency to master - how to achieve the look with all requisite icons but keep sizes L...

Bigpup or someone else might know a trick, but quickly to do your intentions I would select all and unselect the first two with the same [CTRL] method.

Otherwise I would have the paned file manager XFE installed for these functions.
