Are package additions to a live remaster all loaded into ram at boot?

My goal is to run a ram session with no pupsave file of a remastered distro, but I want to keep the remaster light if it all goes to ram. I'm imagining it as a standard custom configuration where regular session changes aren't so important to save, but the few browsers, utilities, and desktop look I...

Re: How to force video resolution on boot?

Hi JASpup One question?? Lucid puppy 5.7.1? Not Precise Puppy 5.7.1? http://wikka.puppylinux.com/PuppyPrecise?redirect=no In any case, I can do the exact same thing in any version of puppy without problems ... I was struck by the version of the distro only Well, the idea is that I am going to edit ...

Re: How to force video resolution on boot?

I'm using computers to fix other computers. If I only had one, nothing would work. I meant Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 as corrected. They're all using the same Acer monitor which likes the Mach64 driver in 16-bit 1440x900 (8:5). Maybe helpful: this notebook boots the correct resolution without adjustment. The...

Unable to use wireless in LxXenial 17.11

Last post (as of now) on the Beginners board topic:

viewtopic.php?p=7437#p7437

It's pretty easy to re-create if your wireless uses the same driver.

The gist is if I want to use it connected, I either need a hack or an Ethernet cable.

Verdict: Certain distributions can't see wireless?

A kernel wireless driver fails LxPup Xenial 16.07 (bug). I don't know if anyone cares in a puplet.

The main release works with some effort.

Re: Certain distributions can't see wireless?

I believe you're right, our time is valuable and we get in challenge ruts. In my case I have an over-arching aversion to material waste and high comfort with familiar machines like that old shirt that still looks good - both ergonomics and how we customize them. There's also probably a sense of just...

Re: Certain distributions can't see wireless?

ath9k confirmed. Seems to be xenial problem. Try (at own risk) this .pet: Yes, prior releases my experience connect more smoothly until Lucid. Xenial is back on, but I haven't tested LxXenial. It requires both Frisbee and Network Wizard. Wizard is for activating the driver. Frisbee does the rest (a...

Re: Installing Puppy Linux on Pentium 4 with 512 MB Ram

I'd imagine system requirement specs for every distro, even though anecdotes are generally more useful. My oldest machine (the one I've been posting here most about), runs Lucid Puppy 5.2.8. 366MHz Celeron / 256mb I haven't tried Precise 5.7.1 even though it's the first Puppy I've ever booted. Tahr ...

Re: Certain distributions can't see wireless?

I've been probing for a compatible with no luck. According to debian.org adapter uses ath9k driver not listed. Ath9k is automatically loaded as part of the kernel? (ref: kernel.org) I found an _htc in the system, but not sure if it's the driver or how to load it: https://i.postimg.cc/RWGG50gQ/wifi00...

LxPupXenial can't see my wireless

Similar to here: Can't get Wary to see wireless adapter that Slacko CAN see! in more current distros.

Tahr sees my wireless adapter, using Qualcomm Atheros PCI-E controller.

LxPupXenial thinks I only have Ethernet.

Is there a common fix?

Re: How to create a customized CD-R session?

You can continue to save further sessions to the CD. Not a CD-ROM, and the only official discussion on the subject I see is for multisession DVDs. This machine has a CD-ROM drive. I used to connect it to an external LPT (printer) port RW drive, but even if it worked in Puppy, I wouldn't use it as m...

Re: Which Puppy uses least RAM?

I just did a recent Firefox install on a legacy Puppy, but that was a rare exception. It was in the repositories. Runs fine but noticed sluggishness. Seamonkey might be worthwhile. I'm cagey about its multi-trick pony status. So there are exceptions you've found. Try the same with Chromium & der...

Re: How to create a customized CD-R session?

Frugal, yes. GRUB is the eventual outcome. That old machine has no USB boot, so CD-ROM is the only alternative to HD. When CDs work they're secure and reliable, and that is what is needed amidst system change and destructive threats. I don't know how old the frugal install is, but if it goes back to...

That is the direction, what I need to learn. I searched Ducky on the topic and they point me to a grub explanation: https://linuxhint.com/set_screen_resolution_linux_kernel_boot/ I'm using YUMI multiboot on a USB or a single distro Live session, which I'm pretty sure is using isolinux like you wrote.

Re: How to force video resolution on boot?

Useful hack, yes. Variables after the screen resolution?:

xrandr --newmode "1280x1024_60.00" 109.00 1280 1368 1496 1712 1024 1027 1034 1063 -hsync +vsync

My goal is a read-only (nosave) boot .iso (CD) with the correct resolution.

Does your .pet work this way? I am new.

I'll look into this. If there's a burn2iso in 5-6x I haven't seen it yet (new user on old hardware). The Pburn utility looks useful for more generic functions. There are a class of people like myself who are in-between lay & technical folks like yourself, and that bridge I see as a source of pro...

How to force video resolution on boot in LucidPup 5.2.8?

When I boot Puppy on my old Windows 98 desktop, I have to leave X to manually change the video resolution with xorgwizard. In this version (TharPup) it doesn't even work, but I can in Lucid. There's lightweight and there's functionally lightweight. Dillo is probably the lightest for very basic pages. My second is Epiphany Web. Lightest full-featured browser is beyond my experience. How to create a customized CD-R session?

Hi all,

I just want an .iso burn on a CD-R after I tweak some basic settings and install some apps.

What's the best method?

If you create a pupsave, does Puppy keep trying to write to a CD? How does a modified read-only session come into being?
