Re: Lenovo Ideapad 100S-11IBY won't boot a Puppy Install
JusGellin , It looks like grub2 is doing the right thing, but the Puppy 'init' script is failing. One more thing to check. Could you please post the contents of the 'grub.cfg' in the root of 'mmcblk1p1'. Those original error messages indicated that if couldn't find the "root" drive. And a...

Re: FrugalPup v41, very flexible Puppy frugal installer, supporting i18n
trawglodyte , Thanks for your persistence. Just a couple of comments: 1) The whole pupmode=13 thing is more obscure than in needs to be, and that should change. 2) Ventoy does not play nicely with booting Puppy ISO files, I suggest you don't do it. ( It inserts a "pmedia=" line in the 'in...

Re: FrugalPup v41, very flexible Puppy frugal installer, supporting i18n
When I use FrugalPup Installer from BookwormPup64_10.0.4 to write to the EFI. The grub.cfg it creates always has <pmedia=usbflash> which is specified by me in the Settings. How do you do this? I'm guessing that you edit the "kernel boot parameters" line in "FrugalPup -> Settings"...

Re: FrugalPup v41, very flexible Puppy frugal installer, supporting i18n
When you add additional Pups you do the Settings and Puppy part of FrugalPup Installer to copy the files from the iso to a new folder on your usb or hard drive partition. but you DON'T do the Boot part. You DO NOT write anything to the EFI partition. Instead, you go back to BookwormPup64_10.0.4 and...

Re: Frugal Full Install - a bit like "Pseudo Full Install"
'ffi_files-01.tar' has been replaced by 'ffi_files-02.tar'. It contains all the same files, except for 2 changes: 'ffiInstallSfs' now honours any symbolic links to directories, in the destination. The old version made a nice mess if you installed a normal kernel-kit kernel to a usrmerge Puppy. 'loca...

Re: Frugal Full Install - a bit like "Pseudo Full Install"

This is my frugal install directory, after installing my 'pfi' directory on a fat32 parition using FrugalPup.
'dpupbw64save66.tar.gz' is 1.3MiB, 'puppy_dpupbw64_10.0.4.sfs' is 589.1MiB.
It runs fine.

Re: Frugal Full Install - "Pseudo Full Install" for Puppy
From your most recent test, it seems that you are including the firmware in the puppy.sfs. If your arrangement could be tweaked like KL so that the firmware and modules are separate sfs layers, then this would still allow the flexibility to swap kernels and/or firmware in and out of the install, wh...

Re: Is it time to reconsider putting Pale Moon browser in Puppy versions
The 'init' script does not care about the contents of the various ?drv's, the names define only the order that they appear in the stack.
It's only limitation is that there must be a 'puppy_....sfs' file (no matter what it contains), all the others are optional.

Re: the 'init' script. I agree, Puppy could use a new 'init' script. But one without any "searching" at all. You know the location when you install it. You know the location when you boot it. So, why should 'init' have to "guess". There should be a boot parameter to define the pa...

Re: Is it time to reconsider putting Pale Moon browser in Puppy versions
Unfortunately, I have to concur with Oz on this one. I know folks who have done this, and at a personal, individual, one-off level, it can be done (with a lot of patience). Interresting. Virtually limitless "?drv" sfs files has been done at least twice before, https://forum.puppylinux.com...
