Re: CrowdStrike Outage Explained
I wonder why CrowdStrike didn't do an incremental rollout (since their code was not defending against a zero day exploit).
And why they would roll it out on a Friday, when their engineers will be off for the weekend when it hits.
Seems to me the entire debacle ...

Thank you all for the good advice. I will try Bigpup's good suggestions.
Also thanks for the advice about VGA and HDMI being similar.
Cheers.

Should I get a new Monitor ?
It's a Samsung 22" 1920 x 1280 (16:9) 60hz connected by VGA.
I'm wondering, if I bought one of those new sub $100 monitors from Amazon, would it give me a sharper display? Crisper text?
Even if I stuck with VGA? Or would I need to switch to HDMI make a ...

Re: Another Puppy Review / Intro
I agree with @vtpup, too. Well said. Puppy's diversity is its strength. Different users will naturally favor different versions depending on their needs. Hopefully the article reflects this attitude. There's room for folks who use all different Puppies for their different needs and purposes.

Re: Chrome Browser is now in control of the Internet
I remember around 2000 when some websites claimed they would only work with IE.
Then that monopoly broke, and they had to support Firefox, too.
And now the OP notes that some are back to "monopoly thinking" with Chrome.
Ugh!!

Re: Visit your local e-dump!
Yeah, from what I hear from friends, they say that most Win 8 and earlier computers can run Windows 11. But around here, at least, it seems a lot of people and small businesses are tossing them as insufficient for Win 11.
Maybe it's cause the original Win 11 requirements were more ...

Re: Screen flicker using BionicPup 64
All I can think of is....
1. Try a different OS on the affected machine, just to see if you get the same problem
2. Check the video driver
3. Switch between Xorg and Xvesa when booting Puppy, and also different screen resolutions, to see if that fixes it. I've run across ...

Thanks for the link to that article.
In the past we've always been immune. But I have to wonder... with malware being so renumerative for the bad guys, it's probably only a matter of time before they target even the few percent of us who use linux. I sure hope not.

Wow, thanks for that list! Very cool.
I know DOS was still used until just a few years ago by some vendors as a bootable operating system for UEFI/BIOS updates. But now even linux will fit on a usb so it's fallen by the wayside for that use.

Maybe look up the doc for your model of tv online. Nearly all TVs made in the last decade have a button that switches input and selects which one is active between the several ports on the tv. Then get a new remote for it if you have to.

Yes, what you're talking about is exactly what I've always done in the past.
