Re: Bookworm Build script
The sfs files are mounted and added to the overlay stack at the init stage, very unlikely IMO that it's 'read' at a later stage (and nothing I changed for that compared to Bullseye).
Is it possible that my system is too quick and we reach a point where it tries to show the desktop but it still ...

(edit 2): I noticed that the main problem was caused my 2 squashsfs files with MANY files (21k and 15k - thet contained conty.sh & Wine prefixes with installed apps). This would be the answer to the problem but I was wondering why in Bulleye I had no problem with these ( I use these files for more ...

But if you don't keep the changes, I don't think it will work, since reboot is needed to activate the driver.
yes, that seems to be the problem. During compile there are some extra changes happening to the filesystem.
Maybe if you make squashfs with those two files (?).

It seems to me like it doesn't produce output at the start of the boot process (during the part which it loads initrd , squashfs files etc). It could send signal to HDMI instead of VGA or something like that and it then does the correct detections.
Is there a way to force detection or output to ...

Update kernel k-6.1.0 vs k-6.7.12 newer has smaller size?
Hello,
What are the differences between kernel k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64-20691 (k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64.squashfs) and k-6.7.12-amd64-9518__v240528 (k-6.7.12-amd64.squashfs) ? 6.7 is 60MB smaller.

Re: Build script option : finit support for many squashfs files
I didn't notice any difference in behavior cause of the old-truncated 01-filessystem.squashfs.
Probably it would be noticeable only if you'd use script e.g. remaster as it depends on some things.
I'd be happy to change the default code in the initrd but the mounted module names all need to have ...

Hello.
This is related to the discussion we did here : https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=34970&hilit=finit#p34970
To sum it up : There is a problem if the size of the text of the squashfs filenames exceed a limit. This is kernel related.

k-6.3.0-2-amd64-sid.tar.gz works ok in bullseye.
Nice, but note there can be a disadvantage with this 'sid' kernel, if you need the kernel-headers for compiling it's nearly impossible.
With the kernel from bullseye-backports (currently v6.1) there's no such problem, tell me if you're interested ...
