Re: Video-calling apps for Puppy...

All major calling apps have app images of web interface so they all work in linux.
I've used the appimages of Viber,Zoom and WhatsApp. I use the web version of skype and Webex. It's amazing that with a 400MB puppy/dog you can make your old PC laptop a remote lesson system. I can attend online ...

Re: Bookworm Build script

The sfs files are mounted and added to the overlay stack at the init stage, very unlikely IMO that it's 'read' at a later stage (and nothing I changed for that compared to Bullseye).

Is it possible that my system is too quick and we reach a point where it tries to show the desktop but it still ...

Re: Bookworm Build script

(edit 2): I noticed that the main problem was caused my 2 squashsfs files with MANY files (21k and 15k - thet contained conty.sh & Wine prefixes with installed apps). This would be the answer to the problem but I was wondering why in Bulleye I had no problem with these ( I use these files for more ...

Re: Bookworm Build script

Btw, Thanks Thanks fred.
I created a backport kernel and included the trixie firmware and it worked (without compiling or making sfs etc).

Btw, I created a merged system. I needed to change only 5-6 of my files and it seems to work. (Assuming that the only difference are the bin,lib,lib64,sbin ...

Re: Bookworm Build script

But if you don't keep the changes, I don't think it will work, since reboot is needed to activate the driver.

yes, that seems to be the problem. During compile there are some extra changes happening to the filesystem.

Maybe if you make squashfs with those two files (?).

The squashfs I made ...

Also, I now have another issue.
I have an rtl 8821CU USB Wifi. In bullseye I had managed to compile it for kernel k-6.1.0-0.deb11.13-amd64 (I compiled from here : https://github.com/morrownr/8821cu-20210916 ). In boomworm I can't compile it because it says it expects a merged filesystem and bin ...

Re: Bookworm Build script

It seems to me like it doesn't produce output at the start of the boot process (during the part which it loads initrd , squashfs files etc). It could send signal to HDMI instead of VGA or something like that and it then does the correct detections.
Is there a way to force detection or output to ...

Re: Wine 4 and 5 AppImage on github - No installation needed!

While with wine you can click on .exe files and run them ,sometimes it is more complex.

I found the PlayOnLinux version very easy to use for bigger programs +64bit windows apps.

Run-as-user county.sh PlayOnLinux4
will run playonlinux without any prior installation.

I've created a link eg

I still use the appimage I posted above plus some more . The other appimages I use them for specific scenarios since I find them more buggy (thats why I didn't post them here)

My update is for another option.
It is not exactly an appimage but it is based on that logic.

Update kernel k-6.1.0 vs k-6.7.12 newer has smaller size?

Hello,
What are the differences between kernel k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64-20691 (k-6.1.0-0.deb11.21-amd64.squashfs) and k-6.7.12-amd64-9518__v240528 (k-6.7.12-amd64.squashfs) ? 6.7 is 60MB smaller.

I know it's a newer kernel but why is it 60MB smaller? Something is missing?
It contains fewer ...

Re: Build script option : finit support for many squashfs files

I didn't notice any difference in behavior cause of the old-truncated 01-filessystem.squashfs.
Probably it would be noticeable only if you'd use script e.g. remaster as it depends on some things.
I'd be happy to change the default code in the initrd but the mounted module names all need to have ...

Build script option : finit support for many squashfs files

Hello.
This is related to the discussion we did here : https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=34970&hilit=finit#p34970

To sum it up : There is a problem if the size of the text of the squashfs filenames exceed a limit. This is kernel related.
Each time I run the build script I have to modify ...

k-6.3.0-2-amd64-sid.tar.gz works ok in bullseye.
Nice, but note there can be a disadvantage with this 'sid' kernel, if you need the kernel-headers for compiling it's nearly impossible.
With the kernel from bullseye-backports (currently v6.1) there's no such problem, tell me if you're interested ...
