Re: Firefox 'portable' browsers - Mainline and ESR, 32- and 64-bit...

Hello Mike Here's an update as requested and for reference if anyone else finds this. As of 28-9-2022 Eurosport player in the UK plays 'on demand' video with Firefox ESR91.9.1 32bit . Version 101.xx fails with an error something about failing to connect to the server. It also has other problems for ...

Re: Firefox 'portable' browsers - Mainline and ESR, 32- and 64-bit...

Hello Mikewalsh Is there any way you could make that V.91.xx package available for a time? If not I'll try what Mikeslr suggests. I am trying to use the Eurosport sports TV player and it was working on Sun in Firefox 91, then I succumbed to Firefox's nagging to update and now it isn't. They must not...

Re: Firefox 'portable' browsers - Mainline and ESR, 32- and 64-bit...

Hello Mike Do you still have any older versions of your Firefox portables? I had one of your portables of the ESR version that had gradually updated itself to the low 90s, 91.xx I think, on my Taha install mainly for sites that need DRM as Firefox seems to be the last 32 bit support for that. I have...

Re: Swapfile- what disk filesystem?

Hello -- to follow up I've now had chance to try this. Used Windows defrag then rebooted to Puppy, used the Pupswap tool to make a swapfile then made a savefile on shutdown. A 'cold' reboots finds and uses both so all seems well. Also, thanks for the heads up about the Linux 5 series kernels and NTF...

Wiz57 -- That's pretty much the setup I've got so I should be good to go though I'll take the tip to boot Windows and run defrag straight before.

Swapfile- what disk filesystem?

Hello If I want/need to set a swapfile does it need to be on a Linux formatted partition eg ext3, or can it be put on ntfs? I'm currently trying Puppy on an old laptop and there are several partitions from Dell's system recovery stuff so it would be nice to avoid trying to resize things. Thanks for ...

Hello An update here. I found a spare 1GB pen drive and used gparted to delete the FAT32 partition that was on it and make and format a new ext2 one using all the space. I've freshly unpacked the portable Chrome files onto the pen and it starts up fine from the LAUNCH script - I'm posting from it no...

Thanks williams2 I will have to try and digest what you've posted but it sounds as though you might have found the root of my trouble. Should it work as a test if I were to format a spare pen drive to an ext file system and put the portable Chrome folder on that? Which ext version would be preferred...

Re: How to install Puppy in a 2001 Dell laptop with a broken DVD drive?

Hello re. No option for USB boot. Something I've seen on a couple machines that sort of age is that the USB boot option only appears in the BIOS if a USB drive is connected at power up. eg plug pen drive in, press power button, enter BIOS and low USB drive is there in the list of boot drives.
