Re: FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
I used your method to find out whether Google Chrome was operating as "root" or as "spot", and it appears to be running as "spot". Did you set up user "spot" with "Login and Security Manager"? If you obtain Chrome directly from google, in oder to ru...

Re: FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
People seem to think running as spot is more than it really is. Spot was developed to be able to run programs that access the internet and limit what THAT program can do as to downloading and writing in the Puppy file system. Example: A browser that is run as spot. The home directory for spot is /h...

Network Printing On FossaPup
Hi everyone, I've been trying to get network printing up and running on two of my computers running FossaPup. The first computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad x220i. The second computer is a Samsung NC210 Netbook. I have gone to the CUPS setup webpage and successfully added the printers, and used a PPD file ...

Re: FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
What do you mean that you are running Chrome as "spot" by way of "Login and Security Manager"? Could you please elaborate on this point, explaining what exactly you did? Also, is it necessary to run as "spot"? Can't I just run it as root? Menu -> System -> Login and Se...

Re: FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
Hi foxpup, I have added pfix=nocopy to the kernel line, and now upon bootup the system is only using 177Mb out of 1.93Gb of RAM. Wow!! I don't know if this will transfer to better performance yet, but I will test out the system performance and let you know how it goes. Kind Regards, John Hi John, N...

Re: How To Adjust Netbook Screen Brightness
I'm happy with my current workaround, so I probably won't try your approach out just yet. What is your workaround? Maybe we can learn from it. Hi PipzDex, I shared my workaround a few posts above. Here it is again: These are the instructions for adjusting the screen brightness on my Lenovo ThinkPad...

Re: How To Adjust Netbook Screen Brightness
These are the instructions for adjusting the screen brightness on my Lenovo ThinkPad x220i. They are nearly identical to the instructions for my Samsung NC210 Netbook: echo X > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness Where X is between 0 and 3000. The only difference on the Netbook is the ma...

Thanks for that.
I tried it out, but I couldn't get it working.
Is there another way?
I remember that on Ubuntu I found a way where a value was echoed into the /dev location for the screen

I have started up htop and it tells me that 1.73GB of 1.93GB RAM is used. That is with Google Chrome closed. It may matter where the cache directory is located and whether the cache size is limited or not. The attached image shows the command line option of Chrome. You will get the information if y...

I have started up htop and it tells me that 1.73GB of 1.93GB RAM is used. That is with Google Chrome closed. I have started up htop and it tells me that 1.73GB of 1.93GB RAM is used. That is too much. Is it like that at the start, before you start any program? You can sort on memory usage in htop (click on the colum title)(cpu usage as well). What is causing this? By the way, does sda1 not show as a deskt...

Re: How To Install Google Chrome Under Puppy Tahr
You already have 2GB swapfile and your netbook as 2GB RAM? That's 4GB in total, and should be more than enough for Chrome. If it is still crashing, then it is not because of lack of RAM. My apology, I don't know how to help further >_< I will have to hand this off to someone more knowledgeable (o-_...

@jm03 thus it begins... Frugal install IS puppy in the most critical sense. full install has all the clever and cute apps but not the magic that is squash filesystem. Re: FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
Hi dogFellow,
I am confused by your instructions.
Where do I put "pfix=ram" ?
Then I open Gparted and right-click on which partition?
What is all this supposed to do?
Kind Regards,
John

Greetings John, Where does Puppy Tahr sit? Is it an older Puppy? Puppy Tahr is based on Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, which was released on 2014. It is _that_ old. FossaPup Running Slow On Netbook
Hi everyone, I have successfully installed FossaPup on both my Lenovo ThinkPad and my Samsung Netbook. Though, the Netbook is now running incredibly slow with FossaPup. I was previously running Puppy Tahr on it, and that definitely ran quicker. What do you guys think I should do? Should I go back to...

Hi all,
I am now running FossaPup64, and I was able to install Google Chrome very easily, but on my Netbook it kept locking up the system, so I'm not going to use it anymore, as it's too resource hungry.
Kind Regards,
John

Re: Why Do You Use Puppy Linux?
Wow, it's great to see this thread still going, and there's been some really good posts. As I am using Puppy Linux more, I am becoming more addicted to it. I am now using FossaPup, and it's significantly better than Puppy Tahr. I'm also using a "frugal" install now, whereas with Tahr I was...
