Ok... I booted with another live USB and ran e2fsck on this crashed USB stick. It corrected tons of filesystem errors and finally I am able to boot with it again, but all the desktop icons are missing. I tried re-run of Xorg server and also played with JWM settings,but desktop icons are not ...

The e2fsck tells us there is nothing wrong with the filesystem. No...none of the given options load the GUI... 'reboot' / 'poweroff'/ xwin[]/ xwin[jwm]/ xwin -default ... none of them.It keeps on displaying same message to do either one of these repeatedly but to no avail. Means the command prompt ...
