Re: jackalpup 0.0 - (rc3) plug and play audio puplet

Hi bob93 Try to select your main sound card again in qjackctl I have seen the default settings not work after install occasionally if I remember correctly. It should be something like ‘hw:PCH’ unless you’re using a usb card. Also, for the rox filer icons, if you right click to bring up the menu, go ...

Re: jackalpup 0.0 - (rc3) plug and play audio puplet

Hi folks. Long time no chat… Yes the the theme endeavor in puppy has been painstaking. geo_c has dialed it in much further than I. I have also been away from the computer for a year or so now so it’s all a blur. I actually have a final version with a much refined theme that I never uploaded… but we ...

Wow!

May he travel well to his next place.

We lost a canine member of the family a couple weeks ago, only of 3 years but what vacuum that is left behind.

Thank you for sharing him with us. I think many of us grew to care for him and will feel the sting in our own way.

Re: What's your solution to create bootable USB drives for multiple isos?

Hey Neo_78 That lingo for full vs frugal is confusing indeed. Full install of puppy is something like installing a stripped down version of the chosen distro the normal GNU/LINUX way. It is really only recommended if you have a specific need to modify permanently base system files etc. No real pros ...

Re: What's your solution to create bootable USB drives for multiple isos?

Another one for frugal installs here. Just too easy compared to the fuss of the iso methods imo. I only ever had the 64bit ext4-G4D issue when making partitions on linux distros other than puppy. On the ventoy note.. I also dislike the seemingly over complicated methods in general so it never kept m...

Hi CorgBrannon welcome (: It is definitely helpful to include info about which pc and which puppy version as a general standard... You can use the .iso you already have to "write" the iso to usb. The above mentioned dd command will do from linux or you can use Balena etcher or Rufus from w...

Re: How to open image files

Hi Snail Close.. you need to assign the img to a loop first with losetup like so: losetup --show -f -p *.img that will show the loop that is assigned e.g /dev/loop8 you can then see the partitions with lsblk and mount them each in their own dir. I had this query a few months back and eventually came...

Not only for appimage/flatpack,
I have had to add xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk for one of my audio apps. It was needed to create an open/save dialog in the native gtk format.

I absolutely detest this modern "flat-look" that's currently all the rage. I guess I'm just stuck in the past!  Totally agree!! Slickness black has been the starting point for my personal custom theme, which I am currently overhauling to better match gtk2/3 and jwm. Adjusting...

Re: How to create pet from compiled application?

So if I make the pet like that, I suppose I could make pet's for all the necessary dependencies the same way, by either downloading from the repo, or compiling from source and using dir2pet. If that's a good approach, I'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, as every source package lists the...

Hi @artemis
For my setup I just used a startup script in /root/startup,

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --primary --left-of DVI-I-1

use xrandr --help for more options

or you could apt install lxrandr. That is the app used in fossapup.

Do the *dogs all have that naming, 'vmlinuz1' and 'initrd1.xz'? if so, why the "1"? Is it to distinguish from Puppy installs? For the debian and manjaro installs, are those initrd* and vmlinuz* files in /boot folder in the installation partition? That is my understanding, that /boot is th...

So do I basically just download the 'src' folder to get started? Yes, the easiest is to get the .tar or.zip (either) I was curious and built it. It does use cmake. I had to add one build dependency, libxapian-dev, you may need more. Make sure to tick the "dev" box in ppm (bottom left) whe...

Yes, I also thought v3.7 was created after #180 was fixed, but I checked the commits and #180 fix is not in v3.7. If you look at the v3.7 tag, it says "27 commits to trunk since this release" -- including my two fixes. But maybe I am misunderstanding the v3.7 and the commits. I wasn't abl...

Thanks for the mount-img script! Funny timing, I had been working on a disk image of my remastered audio pup and came up with 2 very simple scripts. Shortstop it seems like you have the means there, with a little trial and error, to get a very snappy setup. Also consider installing on an internal drive. On uefi I use rEFInd to boot pups, dogs, windows and mainstream linux. It takes a little setup but worth it in the end. I can't give much advic...

I would agree that the original icon doesn't represent the project as well as it could. I think this box-in-box is a substantial improvement, very clean and precise also gives some clue to the nature of easy. Could be more "fun" or catchy but I think this is a better angle.
Just a thought (:
