FPM2:

- big downside is that there is no mobile client.

There is an (older) Android version:https://als.regnet.cz/fpm2/download/FPM2Droid.apk which I have used previously on a tablet. Still available 57.5 KiB apk.

Re: Can user spot be frugally out of ram?

Run a browser as spot with profile & cache not in ram but rather on static media. The browser profile and cache are also created (from first launch) in /home/spot. But this does not mean that the profile and cache can only be in the ram and nowhere else. Let's say you have a profile or even a c...

Thank you @geo_c and @rockedge . You are right about the kernel modules issue. It booted successfully to the default desktop on a different machine. Seeing the enthusiasm here, I downloaded KLV-Hyprland-CE-3.6 stable and did a frugal install to USB . I appear to have no problem booting, but all it gets to is a blank (black) screen with a functioning cursor and track pad (lap top). No keyboard action. I feel dumb to ask what I am missing? ...

a case for Note Case

A 'plug' for Note Case notes manager. I have used Note Case for a long time and have collected a lot of information in .ncd files. I would miss not having it in BW Pup64. So here then is Note Case as a .pet and also as an SFS for use in BW Pup64. Both include the application notecase version 1.9.8 ,...

Re: File names with Umlaut: 3 steps to oblivion (Friendly-Fossa64, JammyPup32 issue)

@bigpup (having modified the topic title):
I think it is not correct to call it "Friendly-Fossa64, JammyPup32 issue".
It applies to FossaPup64 in general, also to DPup-Stretch-7.5 and likely others.
It seems to me more a YASSM or YASSM-SAMBA issue.

File names with Umlaut: 3 steps to oblivion (Friendly-Fossa64, JammyPup32 issue)

A cautionary demo using SAMBA and YASSM Suppose/imagine, that the transferred directory used in the demo is one of many which you move temporarily so that you can later get them back (using SAMBA and YASSM again ). The set up: 2 computers with wired LAN connection. Computer 1 (initial host) running...

Filename with umlaut not valid UTF-8, but duplicate is valid

I have a number of files, which after having been copied through/with SAMBA-share from one drive to another, are now shown to have 'non valid UTF-8' names. The file names contain 'Umlaut' character(s) (üäö). In Rox-Filer: When I 'Duplicate' such a file, the duplicate file then gets a valid (UTF-8) n...

One more thing:
With grub4dos I need to take the basesfs out of initrd, but when using Grub 2, it manages to boot fast with the large initrd.
Does Grub 2 do the separating out of fd64.sfs automatically in the background?

Booting is amazingly fast! No need to change the compression of fd64.sfs :thumbup2: basesfs=direct ... means it remains on disk rather than basesfs=ram ... where its copied into ram. When on disk you'll get faster read speeds with a lz4 compressed fd64.sfs. On your SSD however the differences are l...

Long boot time

Running FatDog64-900 on a Intel(R) Celeron(R) 2955U @ 1.40GHz, I notice that boot time is approx. 1min 35sec and thus much longer than with FatDog64-813 . (approx. 40sec). Boot times for BionicPup64 or LxPupSc64 on the same machine are very similar to that of FatDog64-813. I am puzzled by this and w...

Re: Is running as root a security risk?

When I want extra security (internet banking), then I run a Puppy set up on a LOCKED SD card.
Once I have done my business, I shut down and remove the USB adapter with the card, thinking that I was secure.
Is this naive thinking?

hi greengeek,
there is a simple way in MtPaint itself to make the annoying line 'disappear':
use the 'Smudge' tool to blot it away.
It should be easy to do that with your picture.
