The brightness and backlight work when using
menu,desktop,display control
but using the tray control the brightness of the screen goes rapidly down to zero(though the numbers scroll up and down)
which ever way you move the scroll bar on two laptops Ive tried.

Have you tried running hamfax from the terminal to see if it shows any errors. Where did you get your packages. I tried the debs from buster and it seems to work ok. Ive only used the test file but I could cancel and it stayed working. I can save images. I installed these 2001-06-21-09-00-GYA-11086....

Boots ok on fat32 with grub4dos with my uuid title easy frugal uuid B1CD-F68B kernel /vmlinuz initrd /initrd The BOOT_SPECS in the initrd needs to be set to your uuid Its easy if you are running EASY because you just click on initrd. Ive got the same card.
WPA works for me with Fossa.
I used SNS to connect as wlan0
I dont have WEP

Ive just tried in another computer with a radeon and it works ok in that one.
Its probably just my laptop.
It does have 2 radeon graphics. R3 integrated and R5 discrete.
It must just be a bit confusing.

Running xorgwizard and selecting modesetting.
It then starts up reliably.
But setting it to radeon it boots to the prompt half the time.

Using radeon drivers works well. On booting up, about half the time it ends up at the prompt. I have to type xwin jwm and then its fine. Ive attached logs. Dont know if they mean any thing. I was trying to run a program the other day.
It kept saying it wasnt there but it was.
Then I realised it was 32 bit.
I guess your drivers are 64 bit.
Maybe there are some updated drivers at Epson.

I would try a quick set
retrovol config hardware to hw:2 as thats your onboard.
Assuming you are using the jack output and not hdmi.
Retrovol config tray may need setting to master playback volume.
aplay /usr/share/audio/2barks.au
Thats as far as I can go.
