Re: Inspired By Something that Makes Sense here's F96-CE_5-alpha3

Well ozsouth, nope to Mint, it's Puppy for me til I croak. I used Ubuntu back in the Gibbon days hated it and then found Puppy 3 series, and never looked back. To me Mint/Ubuntu is like driving a school bus when you're used to DIY dune buggy. Presently F96-CE v4 with the tweaks I've made does everyt...

Finally got ti to work after Gparted again, rewriting partition table, formatting to FAT32, then using stickpup in F96CE v4 to write the ISO to stick. Rebooting into v5 alpha3, unfortunately seeing all of the old problems on this new laptop (listed in sig) : no touchpad function (have to use a USB M...

Re: Clickpad Woes (and some solutions)

After a full day of use the touchpad is error free. No jumps or freezes. No inadvertent jumps while typing. Let's hope this is the end to touchpad problems on this laptop. I'm pretty confident at this point that we're good to go. I do wonder whether the change from synaptics to libinput is do-able i...

Re: Testing Linux Mint for Solutions to a few Puppy Issues w/ New Hardware

F96-CE works best on this laptop so far and libinput touchpad is being tested on it now. It's been working perfectly for a day, so far. I also have Bookworm64 along with 6 other pup/dog distros as well as EasyOS frugal installed on this laptop. Bookworm64 does have its own problems, OOTB touchpad: r...

Testing Linux Mint for Solutions to a few Puppy Issues w/ New Hardware

I'm using the new high powered notebook listed in my sig with F-96 CE v.4. I've installed a late huge kernel (also in sig) to get touchpad working, plus some additional firmware to get its network card working. Problems were to be expected because of the overall newness of the hardware. Issues left ...

Latest attempt at a solution

I'm going to try to use libinput instead of synaptics as the touchpad driver. This is accomplished by symlinking /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf into /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ . When that is done, it takes precedence over higher numbered configuration files in the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d1...

Re: Clickpad Woes (and some solutions)

I was able to regain touchpad control finally by opening the computer's BIOS manager, and then closing it again without actually changing anything. However, touchpad usage is flakey, sorry to say, on this laptop with F96-CE despite all of the settings I've tried. Things seem to work for a short whil...

Re: MikeWalsh’s WineAppImage Framework

Thanks Mike I've installed the 9.3 Wine portable, and really like it! Is it doing what you wanted it to do ? Most of my own Windoze apps are still 32-bit, though I do find the occasional one that insists a 64-bit is available, and to please install that instead. And then it quits on me..... At leas...

Re: Clickpad Woes (and some solutions)

All was well for a few days, but I started to notice some cursor freeze-ups again last night. BUT this afternoon I tried that, rebooted, unfortunately having...

I've noticed a few times that when I load an older SFS it doesn't actually appear -- for instance an older 5 series LibreOffice which once loaded should appear in /opt doesn't appear there afterwards. Thanks Mike, 9.3 works great. AND, it runs old Google Sketchup 7 and 8, which as I probably repeat ad nauseum by now, is my only WINE must-have capability. Nice to be able to move up this far in wine versions and still run the old standby programs from a dozen years or so ago. And in a portable appl...

Re: MikeWalsh’s WineAppImage Framework

I have the portable working well, these days, and I like it quite a bit now. I did not understand it fully before. I get it now.

New different question:
Is it possible set up a wine64 prefix with the portable (presently using the wine 5.11 version) to run a 64 bit win program?

@mouldy Thanks again. Agree with what you say -- posts crossed..... I'd like to try the Win version on Wine. Which one did you use?

The version I downloaded was a Microsoft .msix file. Not sure how to in install that in Wine....

Re: Where can I find FBReader 2.0.x for Puppy? Anyone?

I just did a little more reading about Anbox. Seems others have found it difficult to implement in Puppy, and looks like it is actually a qemu based emulator under the hood. Since I already have a qemu instance of Windows7 I could probably do the same for an instance of Android. But then this is sta...

Thanks Flash, I answered that one but somehow managed to erase my own writing while posting. That's an early version, as mentioned, not a 2.x version which is the one of interest. Apologies for the omission.

Wow, lots of responses so quickly! I'll try to answer briefly: williwaw Thanks, but I do already have Calibre, and my usual format is epub. Where can I find FBReader 2.0.x for Puppy? (Solved)

I've just tried to add my favorite book reader, FBReader to F96-CE v.4 from Puppy Package Manager. Boy, a really ugly ancient version and it crashes. Removed. I've actually only ever used the vastly better, old free Android .apk version 2.0.6 on my tablet. I really love that reader. So I'd like to f...

Re: Clickpad Woes (and some solutions)

Further study.... Looks like the Synaptics config file only maps out a button area, while pSynclient activates that area as a button. So they don't actually overlap in function. Or shouldn't. With that distinction in mind, I'm trying a new setup now which seems to work to mimic my old touchpad with ...
