Re: BookwormPup64 Repository (and other) Problems
I had always been under the impression that Puppy was for average users, but I guess with the complexities introduced by all the packaging problems it's an expert's distro now. Well there is no one Puppy distro any more, and some require more technical knowhow than others. Back in the early Puppies ...

Re: BookwormPup64 Repository (and other) Problems
one final note for tomorrow. If a properly burned StickPup thumbdrive doesn't start your mini up, try F2StickPup. They burn different types of boot methods, and some computers like one better than the other. Both of those are available in F96-CE rev4 under Menu>Setup. I think it all would work best ...

Re: BookwormPup64 Repository (and other) Problems
As I said, the easiest thing (and probably most familiar) is to make a DVD, first. Not a USB stick. I'm guessing that the way you originally installed Bionic on your desktop was via a DVD of Bionic. I'm just suggesting that you make a similar DVD of F96 - CE, and then reboot with that in the DVD ...

You can Use Puppy's Pburn in Bionic in your HP Desk to make a DVD of F96-CE, then reboot.

Re: BookwormPup64 Repository (and other) Problems
Easiest way: For USB stick installation, see if your desktop will run whatever flavor pup/dog you want temporarily, then write the stick for that OS from Menu>Setup>StickPup (or F2SticPpup). Looks like you have a dvd drive on the HP 600, so just burn the new OS to a DVD, and then reboot and run from ...

tigerflag I think you mean portables not .pets? .pets were always installed by the Puppy Package Manager. Re: BookwormPup64 Repository (and other) Problems
Reading these last couple of posts I had to cringe a little, but mainly in sympathy. I knew the word .pet would cause confusion. Nobody who isn't already familiar with puppy linux's past would know that a .pet is the extension for a traditional program file in Puppys. (Well there were before that ...

Re: Firefox 'portable' browsers - Mainline and ESR, 32- and 64-bit...
Thanks Mike, I'll download the Mediafire one. The Catch 22 of course was that in order to comply with Google's idiocy about downloading only with a "Google Approved" browser, Firefox portable was also hosted there. Double block. Btw Mike, why not host your portable Puppy stuff on Ibiblio.com -- it's ...

Re: How to use Surfshark VPN w/ F96-CE r4?

Re: How to use Surfshark VPN w/ F96-CE r4?
Received the Mango VPN Router and spent a lot of time trying to configure it. Eventually did get it going for both OpenVPN and Wireguard. Wireguard was the fastest connection through it at about 13 Mbps OpneVPN was about 6 Mbps. My cable modem is rated 50 Mbps, and actually measure 60, so these VPN ...

@bigpup thanks, that worked on Firefox. Unfortunately I mainly use Seamonkey, and not available for that. Also Surfshark doesn't work with Roku TV. And it doesn't work with my Xfinity router. I guess the only solution is to get another router and use bridge mode. Looking into that, or possibly ...

Okay, Choose Ubuntu....... uh oh, it's a snap pack. Been warned against those in Puppys.... Okay then ...

mikewalsh Thanks for confirmation, Mike. BTW when you tried 9.19 WINE staging and it did work, were you on BWP64 ver 10.8? Or were you on 10.6? I couldn't even get the 8.0 WINE sfs working on 10.8 version of BWP64. Total agreement about no problem using older versions of WINE, for me. I'm just ...

F96-CE 32 Bit Compatibility SFS
Background: I've been using the Fossapup64 9.5 32 bit compatibility sfs with F96-CE rev4, but it did not work with my 32 bit printer driver. The problem was that the i386 libraries while present, weren't found by the OS. Rockedge provided a manual solution in the form of a config file. I have ...

Re: Printing doesn't work w/32 bit driver (SOLVED)
I just made a 32bit-compatibility-F96CE-r4.sfs that I tested. It adds the i386 compat libraries and configures F96CE for them. Don't know where to post it, in case anybody else wants it. Usage: You can load it via Puppy Boot Manager for use next after boot, or load it on the fly, but in that case ...

Re: Printing doesn't work w/32 bit driver (SOLVED)
Further interesting info: There is included in F96 CE rev 4 already a file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/zz_i386-biarch-compat.conf whose contents are # Legacy biarch compatibility support /lib32 /usr/lib32 but this doesn't provide complete 32 bit compatibility. It needs both the F95 32 bit compat sfs, and then ...

Re: Printing doesn't work
I've taken apart and examined the components of the necessary driver for my printer and I think the problem is that the filters are 32 bit. F-96CE can apparently load the Fossapup64 32 bit compat, BUT it doesn't find the path to the i386 libs. See here: https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p ...

Re: F96-CE3: 32bit compatibility SFS?
Okay so I've finally wandered here after forum searches from my attempts to get my older Dell Color Laser printer working in F96-CE rev4. I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that the necessary CUPS printer filters are 32 bit, hence I need 32 bit compatibility in F96-CE. It is not possible to ...
