Re: Is there a utilty to expose the contents of a save-session file

savefiles are never compressed if it is ready to use. Like any other file, savefile can be copied, moved, deleted. zipped, tarred, etc. A partition consists of bytes of data on a device like a hard drive or a usb drive. A file, any file consists of bytes of data on a device like a hard drive or a us...

Re: I created a script to write a blank save file (borrowed from sandbox-rw.sh)

You can make files with a mountable file system in the file for general purpose use, the file does not need to be mounted as a savefile in an aufs layered file system. The file can be on any file system, including ntfs or fat32. Any Linux OS can do this, not just Puppy. For example: # dd if=/dev/zer...

Re: Xdelta difference manager annoying popup

When it pops up, is there the name of a file in the delta file text box? Something like /mnt/home/xxx.delta If there is, you could try renaming or moving or deleting that .delta file. Do you see anything in /root/Startup/ that might be doing this? Does typing this in a text terminal console find any...

Re: Get rid of Gnu Grub menu?

GRUB is GRand Unified Bootloader. The boot loader copies vmlinuz (the kernel) and initrd.gz (the initial ram drive, which is a little Linux operating system in ram) and starts it executing. There is an older, legacy version of Grub, Grub 1, and a newer, more complicated version of Grub, Grub 2. I bo...

Re: Get rid of Gnu Grub menu?

The grub.cfg file would usually be in the dir boot/grub on the usb drive. rufus was used to install the boot loader, which seems to be Grub 2. The recommended way to configure Grub 2 is to edit /etc/default/grub, in this case setting: GRUB_TIMEOUT=0 then running update-grub but that won't work if Gr...

Re: Can Mesa Shader Cache be deleted with no harm?

It would be safest to re-start X/Xorg/Xwindows after deleting the Mesa Shader Cache.
That will replace the items in the cache dir, so there is not much point in deleting the mesa cache.
It's only about 2MB in my Pup.

glxgears seems to run properly if the cache is deleted.

Re: Get rid of Gnu Grub menu?

There should be a file named grub.cfg on the usb flash drive, probably in a folder named boot.
Edit it and change any line with

set timeout= anything

to

set timeout=0

This will boot the default menu item without displaying a menu.

Re: Fossadog 20.04 / Keybord layout change

Puppy has a mouse-keyboard wizard. Maybe Fossadog has something similar, I don't know. You can edit xorg.conf and configure it to use multiple languages. Or you can use setxkbmap. For example, you can put this in a script: #!/bin/sh setxkbmap 'it,fr,us(alt-intl)' -option grp:lctrl_lshift_toggle When...
