The Noble has already been recommended here.
It is requested to be a community edition (CE) Pup. I agree that efforts toward such occurs.
Would be nice to join in there and contribute for a future 64bit there to get things moving on this LTS PUP distro.

@wizard Try your Ventoy USB booting the ISO. If it boots, let me know, I think I might not this. Further, if it stops at GRUB, run debugsave and post so that @dimkr or peebee can address the WoofCE resolution. Lastly if it stops at a point where the desktop should emerge, post that as well.

Running the VM: Lets assume upon desktop your distro did not get a dhcp address from the host OR the one that was originally assigned is not what you wanted.

I have booted and run 'live' the Ubuntu latest ISO file via Ventoy as well as SG2D. ... works!
I have doing this daily without issues.
This could be an option in cron; but manual is still fine.
