Re: Pv - measure drive write-speeds...

Both of these are excellent "at-a-glance" visual of a write operation. The "fly-in-the-milk" is the I/O subsystem as it can/does mask operations that can/does impact the visuals as the subsystem can reflect completion even though the actual operation may still be in transit; henc...

ETP - LIKE the video showing navigation and product demos. I am in favor of the "Audio Notification" that your desktop demonstrates. I am hopeful this kind of technology is used more and more in our PUPPY experience. This is a definite step as we continue into the 21st century. Thanks for...

This may be helpful. In all of my years, I do 2 things with each PC I ever touch: In BIOS/UEFI, set hardware clock date-time In PUPs, at FirstRUN, Click "Hardware clock set to UTC" "Time from Internet" where I click "synchronize at startup" when asked. For any PC, that ...

Hi Amigodetux Nice report of your Thinkpad, the importance you show. I have a question AND a line item that I would add if using the form for couple of my PCs. Question Does "Capable of saving..." nullify PUP's session saving feature for this report? Would Add 2 items that refer to ease of...

Use WoofCE via GIT. It will do what you need.

Offer any updates there, if you choose.

Re: Boot Puppy directly from .iso without making a DVD, Frugal or Full install

Glad to hear that you have got the older Puppy's ISO booting for you. ISObooter can be found here, as it has been around for years and works. There is a GRUB2 writeup for it in the wild, as well. I keep all my ISOs in a single /boot-isos folder. GRUB2 alleviates the concatenation issue when I need t...

I am not answering anyone here, this post is a mere footnote . [I have never used the xz compression option in my builds. Is there any performance penalty when the modules get loaded and used? Yes, probably booting goes a bit slower and initial RAM usage a bit higher (but may depend on your hardware...

Found the problem; "sqlite". My OLD eyes missed what PPM shared. It showed me the discrepancy with what PPM had and what the system had.

Old eyes, late at night, sun-spots (HA!)...in any event, I missed the screen's accuracy. After upgrade, all is well.

Thanks again!!!

Re: Boot Puppy directly from .iso without making a DVD, Frugal or Full install

Thanks johnrpm It appears that you are using an older PUP ISO. For those old PUPs, the SG2D process desribed in this thread will NOT work . Those older PUPs were NOT built using the modern methods the developers provide for BIOS-UEFI PCs. The best PUP "direct" ISO boot solution for older P...

Re: Boot Puppy directly from .iso without making a DVD, Frugal or Full install

Hi johnrpm The PUP developers have put together an outstanding boot mechanism which has proven itself for over a year. The methods that ship with the 2020-2021 PUPs should work on either BIOS or UEFI PCs. The loopback.cfg they put there is a part of the GRUB2-EFI boot system and it works, either in ...

This is consistent with the modernization efforts the WoofCE developers and DOG developers have been leading. In my tests, I have not seen proble...
