Hi Chris

Your problem seem related to FossaPUP64 and your hardware.

What does DMESG say...before your system become unresponsive?

Re: How do I install Puppy Linux in GRUB?

GRUB2 is built-in all modern PUPs & DOGs. No install needed.

There are 3 ways to boot a PUP distro.

  1. directly from its ISO file

  2. by extracting and creating a "Frugal" from its ISO file

  3. by extracting and creating a "Full" from its ISO file

Are you looking for boot assistance?

Re: Devuanpup 32 and 64 ( woof-ce )

Hello josejp2424 Got around to testing the latest version. Very nice indeed. I downloaded your 64bit ISO file to /BOOTISOS on my SG2D USB and booted it directly to desktop on a BIOS 64bit PC (no changes or fiddling required). Made FirstRun changes and accessed some local media files playback ...

Re: Cagepup64 - Puppy on Wayland (sort of)

Hello dimkr Tested V8 by booting the ISO file directly on a BIOS 64bit PC. Boots fast and cleanly. Modified the /boot/grub to add loopback.cfg by taking the grub.cfg and adding the isofile find requirement. Added Chromium via its package manager and started it via --no-sandbox. Youtubes are fine. At ...

Hello @666philb. Should I see an indication/button or some difference in the SSM?
The SSM before, after quickpet before reboot, and after reboot is showing the same, visually. I may be missing something.

Please Advise

Re: A great utility for checking an external ntfs hd for errors

Some typical corruptions of the NTFS partitions when using a Linux goes back decades. It has always REQUIRED that a user boots a Windows to run the utility(s) to correct. In the past 2 decades, I have not found a PE or a Windows ISO with the expressed intent to correct potentially corrupt NTFS for ...

Re: Grub2 "iso-boot" is really a Grub2 "image-boot"

This method only works if I am happy with the current contents of the ISO. This statement is true but misses a caveat! DONT FORGET that any user. at boot-time, can edit the "linux" line for ANY appropriate PUP parms one feels necessary, if they choose. So the normal PUP benefits when the PUP boot ...

Hi @666philb and @01micko . Should/could the SAMBA SSM be updated with a "new" button allowing user confirmantion for SAMBA start at boot-time? This would standardize SAMBA SSM setup+start use.

Re: Grub2 "iso-boot" is really a Grub2 "image-boot"

This is just as we have been doing with PUPs since beginning of 2020 when modern PUPs started using the GRUB2-EFI model.. It allows a PUP ISO file to boot giving the users ALL the same functionality of a Frugal boot, without the need to expand or place files out of the ISO onto media. At the same ...

The PPM GRUB2 "appears" to have been crippled by development, I think. I dont know why this is or what the intent is in doing so. In my case: This ONLY happens on 1 of my PCs. Other models do not exhibit this behavior.

It is important to note, though, what to look for when this problem is seen.

We may need to make a checklist somewhere for others to reference on the many boot problems we, PUP-DOG users, encounter.

Agreed for one of a couple approaches that would/could be a "permanent" solution for adding PUP parms to the "linux" boot line. DONT forget to ALSO edit the same line in the "loopback.cfg" to cover all modern PUP boot approaches. P.S. gyrog 's process changes (not in all modern PUPs) takes care of ...

Re: Looking for a website where I can install Windows OS and programs.

Some PUPs of the past did NOT have 'egrep' command. Yours does, if I am reading your post correctly. AND, your results shows you have "svm". This means that your PC has the hardware that the Linux kernel will use to accelerate a VM's preformance. That command interrogates your system for PCs ...
