Re: Cannot boot USB from my Windows 10 machine

Sorry to hear about your woes! Puppy should load easily in most cases, in my experience. I have found RUFUS to be great for making live USBs, but not for installations. Your problem may relate to older methods used to make a USB puppy which can cause trouble loading in modern machines, IMHO. 1) Try ...

Re: Can puppy save my new computer? How?

What sort of data might you wish to save ? A very short answer...You could make a LIVE USB with eg Kubuntu or Fossapup64 on it, boot (disable secure boot) and find/transfer data to another drive. You could also use Kubuntu or Fossapup64 to make a backup of the problem drive (not sure why you might ...

Re: Twister OS

I have been able to run Windows 32bit programs in Wine installed under Box86, which is installed in Pi-Apps which is installed OOTB in TwisterOS. All this on a Pi4 4GB, with Twister installed on a USB 3.0. Best to have both of these to run Box86. Twister is now my go-to OS for casual work on the Pi4 ...

I find psearch reasonable, but slow. CAJA has a very good file finder.

But if you want something REALLY fast, Fsearch is the go once it is setup. Its in the Bionic64 PPM and in Quickpet.

I have to agree with Bigpup. I run a PI4 with 4GB RAM as an always-on device and its excellent for most day-to-day tasks. I run TwisterOS booted from a 32GB USB stick, AND I can run some 32 bit windows programs under WINE which runs under Box86 which is installed under Pi-Apps. However, the more one ...

CleanRam_0.2 can be found here as a .pet, and it converts via pet2sfs into a .sfs which runs happily on 32 and 64 bit Puppy OSs, in my wxperience. Wouldn't be without it, especially when running graphics/wine programs on 4GB Ram computers.

Re: Ubuntu for a arm64 based computer

I agree. Ubuntu Desktop is too slow and clumsy for any serious work, even in a Pi4 with 4+GB RAM. Puppy runs very well, although the range of software I found limiting. Anybody else care to comment on this ?? I now run TwisterOS, ( or MX-Fluxbox ). Both really build on the basic raspbian OS, adding ...

Not all windows programs run, or run absolutely perfectly, but you may be surprised at what does work..

Been running LXDE puppies for 4 or more years for home and other personal business. Currently using Bionicpup64 + ydrv with LXDE on a single board computer. Another idea is to run Lubuntu and Puppy on separate USBs, which can work OK on older or slower machines. Just backup Lubuntu via clonezilla and copy/paste the Puppy savefolder or savefile . Puppy is made for USBs and Lubuntu clones with in-built persistence can be found here: https://phillw.net ...

I continue to recommend STICKPUP which comes OOTB with Bionicpup64, which can be run as a LIVE USB to frugally install a variety of Puppies on a second USB. Used it last night to install Fossapup64 on a USB. 1) Load/Copy the desired Puppy ISO - in this case Fossapup, into a convenient directory 2 ...

If you ave another PDF viewer installe such as evince, you can set that as your default PDF viewer

Navigate as follows: Menu -> Setup -> Default applications viewer - (select PDF pulldown menu)

BTW, I a writing this in LXSCPup64, but something similar should be in all puppies.

I transfer files using PureFTP as the server, and gFTP as client, both found in most OOTB Puppy Menus. It is easy to setup. Run ImageMagick in BionicPup64 ?

Imagemagick is a fabulous tool I would use more often if it could be run on my go-to Puppy OS, which is BionicPup64 with LXDE in ydrv. As I recall, using a saveFOLDER allows for larger personal storage space . This is in conjunction with a ext2 or ext4 partition on which the Frugal files + savefolder are saved. You still need the fat32 partition for boot files. Its worth a bit of pre-planning before you set up a frugal install. I ...
