Re: Most of the Puppy Systems in Place and Running

Thanks Rockedge,

I was starting to have Puppy Linux withdrawal symptoms...needed my daily "fix" from the forum news. Always something of interest or practical value. More so than other forums which shall be un-named.

Re: WeeDogIt - to test/use other distros as frugal installs

I had trouble booting into MX-XFCE, and the following solution might work for other MX variants. At first, I could only boot into root user, using the other option login with ID/PASSWORD as root/roo t. The suggested user demo/demo login did not work. Running as root limited usage a bit, as certain ...

Re: weedogit.sh script to frugal boot most any distro

I am very impressed with the weedogit script. EndeavourOS worked perfectly. What a fabulous extension to the Puppy Linux concept! The acid test for me was MX-Linux, as this is my preferred OS after Puppy Linux. So I installed Fossapup64 onto a clean 32GB USB 2.0 using STICKPUP, shrunk the FAT32 boot ...

Wait a minute, I just checked and my frugal install of Beta 4 has an fdrv listed. Will that be loaded at boot I ...

Re: QuickPup64 22.01 BETA 5

I tried to run Quickpup Beta 4 about 3 weeks ago, and I like it a LOT. BUT, the wireless connectivity (eg via frisbee) does not work in that the OS does not see the WiFi, even after trying the suggested fix. All other puppies that I have tried work OOTB in this respect. Before I try Beta 5 is this ...

Re: Rotten useless file finding system.

Using Bionicpup64. I have issues with file search functions with PCMANFM which have been largely solved by using : Caja file manager or Fsearch. Both work well and fast (especially Fsearch) , but I tend to use Caja first as it is my default file manager. Caja runs rock steady but I find it a bit ...

I agree with mike. I use the 3.3 version and it just works. And I like the menu items too! Just extract the WINE files outside the save folder load the 32 compatability sfs for the particular puppy ( if its 64 bit) run ldconfig in the terminal run the register script to start wine run wine.sh ...

On my laptop I have used the puppy linux HDMI out to various TVs and so on. I always boot the OS with the HDMI cable DISCONNECTED or I get the same/similar problem as described. Then, once booted, I plug in the HDMI cable and use Zarfy to select the same resolution on the TV as on the normal ...

Re: Help Puppy Linux get a higher hit count on Distrowatch

For me it's a lot about the "frugal" install capabilities and the speed at which the system operates. I totally agree with rockedge. This last week I've built a Bionicpup64 on a USB-HDD with VirtualBox and QEMU as centrepieces. I can now take my virtual machines anywhere. Boots anywhere, runs fast ...

Re: Is this possible -- HDMI interface to TV from a laptop with Puppy?

I regularly have cause to send screen output to a TV via an HDMI cable. I prefer ZARFY multiple screens for the selection, which can be TV only or both TV and laptop. The trick is to make the TV signal the same resolution as the Desktop/laptop. Never had a problem on very different TV brands. ZARFY ...

Re: USBImager

I think it needs to be made clear about how these tools operate. While Stickpup is a great tool, it is quite specific to making Puppy Linux FRUGAL installations with persistence by extracting the contents of the ISO. In addition it makes the USB bootable by installing GRUB. All of this in a single ...

I think Wizard's technique is a simple and effective solution. Clonezilla is great but I find the menus difficult to understand. However, if you want to use the terminal, you can write and compress the USB as a disk image backup: dd if=/dev/INPUT_DEVICE_(eg_sda) conv=sync, noerror bs=64K | gzip -c ...

Hi Clarity, This looks interesting, thanks. I will try this. I presume that one can burn the image to USB via RUFUS or Etcher in Windows, even. What is ...
