Re: 2nd keyboard config lost after shutting Fossapup down. (SOLVED)
Hello bigpup Well, it seems I put a false proposal - that my kbd settings were lost. I just re-booted and fonts have been preserved . So NOW my complaint is false. This is what happened. And I owe you a very big apology for wasting your time. For many months (probably years) Puppy switched reliably ...

2nd keyboard config lost after shutting Fossapup down. (SOLVED)
G'day all and woof ! On my desktop I configured 'alternate (Russian) kbd' on my desktop. I do this - as you expect - with menu -> setup -> Puppy setup -> keyboard mouse (etc). At the end I have an Australian kdb and a Russian kbd available. I swap between these two using Left Alt and Left Shift keys...

Hello Jasper , mikewalsh & mikeslr Mike - you had a 'go' at running this - but seem to have fallen away in the last week or so. I notice you re-located discussion to other topics too. I'm keen to re-activate this topic; I would like (very much) to introduce speech-to-text on Fossa 96CE (and othe...

Re: Simple, hackable offline speech to text
Hello Jasper and mikewalsh The state of the game at the moment. I thought I had the software installed correctly. I found a microphone and using gWaveEdit (from the menu) saw the VU meter move to center scale when I spoke etc. The mic is connecting to Puppy in some fundamental way. At this point I f...

Jasper A summary of this posting : The software is in place, but I haven't plugged in/used a microphone. The rest of this thread describes getting/installing the software. Very routine. I'll write about using the microphone in a new message. o-o-o Following on from previous posting. I needed to get...

Hi mikeslr & Jasper I found the DevX file (and - embarrassment, embarrassment - when I went to save it discovered it was already on my HDD. Yes, in a folder /mnt/sda2/software/Puppy_Linux_masters/Fossa64/ What an unusual place to keep the DevX file. Strange but true! Loaded DevX. Confirmed by me...

Hello sparky1234 & woof My eeePC A friend gave me an eeePC. I installed 'Friendly' Pup on it. I run WiFi to the internet via a modem in the house. Speaking generally, the "eee" is in my workshop - a metal structure not conducive to the reception of a weak UHF radio signal from the mode...

Additional observation from FF web.
I asked for the latest version - answer was v122 BUT looking more closely v124 appears to be the latest.
Don't understand this, but I don't think my problem stems from FF version.

Hello Jasper Below The output redirection ' > ' operator writes to a disk file rather than the terminal [file]. Using a double ' >> ' operator you can append to a file, rather than overwriting the previously written info in the file . And the other 'stuff' puts the file into a different directory - ...

Re: Should desktop users boot Puppy from a USB stick, or install it to a HDD?
Installing to HDD or Thumb drive? Good "Q". I do both, but I generally install to an internal HDD, not a thumb drive. I abandoned Windows a long time ago; that means I can (and do) re-format the HDD to install a Puppy. Generally I use MikeSLR's "manual installation using ROX file mana...

This posting is about the 'diff' command (from the terminal). I 'diff'd two files that should have been identical. Following observations from MochiMoppel , bigpup , Trapster and Keef I created two new files. (I erased the original files). Again, I used 'duplicate' from ROX. This time I retained the...

Duplicated files not the same? Interpreting the diff command (solved - sort of)
Hello all For conclusion - see my second posting I began with the file S15Pup32-22.12-230901.iso and used the command "duplicate" in ROX to create a new file. I called this "file_S15X". I duplicated S15X (using ROX) to create a second file called "file_S15Y". I ran diff...
