Re: Where are installed apps stored? How to create Icons?

you should be able to boot the acer with the fossa, once you have turned off some stuff in windows and changed some settings in bios. I am not that familiar with fossa, but a question about how to boot an acer r11 with windows from your usb would be a good topic to initiate in the fossapup section. ...

It's kinda like IRC, but more updated and stuff Chase, thats a pretty nominal description of what you got going, and maybe the server section is not the easiest place to find an announcement of sorts. Maybe a post up top like the user section? you are going to have to sell the idea a bit I would th...

Re: Newbie questions - where are apps stored, icon creation

In no way is Puppy a cut down version of Linux! +1 you may have a save file of limited size that is causing the error about space available. Others may be able to confirm if you can create a save folder with fossapup. This might necessitate a linux filesystem on your usb instead of fat32. A savefil...

Firstly where are the files written when you install software. they will be saved in the savefile or savefolder with the usb install, were you presented with an option to create a save file or savefolder at shutdown on the first boot? the size limit may be associated with the size of save file you ...

Re: How to use 'man' command in Puppy?

Can I make it run from the hard disk? yes, the essential files unetbootin wrote to your usb can be copied and ran from the harddisk also. this is referred to as a frugal install. it can co-exist with the operating system already on the disk. you will have to configure the existing boot loader to al...

hoping to see something straight forward like sysmem yes, a bit more info than you need. The first line on mine is "MemTotal". The sys spec woof 32 indicates you are running the 32 bit version of Tahr. This does not mean you have 32 bit hardware. However, I looked up pup sys info and it s...

Re: Total beginner with 6.0.5

while you were posting, I updated my previous post with a command you can run from the terminal to find the memory amount. Is your 6.0.5 the 32 or 64 bit version? If 64 bit you have more options. If 32 bit, your atom may be limited to running a 32 bit pup.

Lots of stuff there at guru99. One of the challenges to running older laptops with modern browsers is that browsers are constantly changing, and the older pups need fixes. Newer pups might work out better for you. If you want to see what might be a good choice, you could mention if your laptop is ca...

welcome Tex, if you have a running puppy, you are already learning about linux :) puppy does not include many man pages as it seeks to keep the install size down. This is a bit of a throwback to the "fit everything on a cd" days. I assume you are typing "man appname" at the comma...

:thumbup2: there are a number of ways to get puppy installed. If you want to put it on your hdd, it can easily live alongside the mint install. We prefer what is called a frugal install, just a few files in a single folder that can be booted. In fact you can have any number puppies installed frugall...

Re: Personal storage fills without saving?

You can still uninstall offline packages from the PPM, so I don't yet grasp the benefit of sfs loading (i.e., how unloading an sfs is different from uninstalling from the PPM). a sfs loads a read only copy of the app. a sfs is not kept in your savefile. An installed app increases the size of your s...

Re: Personal storage fills without saving?

Yes, 6 and 7 pups support multiple pupsaves, but I'm not going to start rebooting for apps. I am not suggesting you reboot to use an app. Use a different savefile to install the app so that you can create the sfs, or do it in ram if you wish. you can load and run the sfs with your slim and permanen...

Re: Personal storage fills without saving?

I think more about remasters than save folders. Ideally I want static setups with flexibility for minor adjustments. Closest I am is pupsave files set to never save (always manual). for static use, I have moved browsers and email out of the save file/folder. sometimes it is easier to let small conf...

Do you know of any operating system which won’t allow a web-browser to? EasyOs allows you to run a browser in a container. The only access it has to the main filesystem is through a shared folder. In your example of uploading, you would have to move the file to be uploaded to the shared folder befo...

Puppy hasn't always supported multiple desktop environments as well as it has in some some more recent releases. Re: Run an Almost Invulnerable Puppy

Barry's EasyOS has a nice feature that uses the recent kernel lockdown addition. You can boot the main system, configure it as you like and then reboot into the lockdown mode where the HDD's aren't even visible, and any changes made are lost at shutdown, so you boot the exact same system time after...
