Re: What's the future of gtkdialog

GTK is not being replaced in Linux—but it is evolving, and some trends may give the impression of a shift. Let’s break down what’s really happening:

Is GTK Being Replaced?

No, GTK is still a core toolkit, especially for:
GNOME desktop (which uses GTK 4)
Many Linux applications like Gedit ...

The sda4 it created without asking was 140gb, is that too big for grub4dos?
Size of partition should not matter.

What format is it?

That may be the issue.

Re: What's the future of gtkdialog

What would you use?

gtkdialog is an older utility used to create GTK-based GUI dialogs from shell scripts, but it's now deprecated and unmaintained. If you're looking for modern replacements that serve similar purposes (especially for scripting GUIs), here are several active and maintained ...

Re: Lightweight tools & Puppy, curious to hear your take

You are describing exactly what 99% of the Puppy specific programs are in a puppy version.

In the early days of Puppy development and somewhat still now.

Many of the programs in a Puppy version, are simple script files, designed to do one thing, and do it very well.

Need to do something else, use ...

Tried it in BookwormPup64 10.0.10 and it works.

Which I could move it around on the desktop, but it is not movable.

Not sure if the 2+2 rox button is working correctly.

First time clicked on it adds two more Rox windows.

Click on again and those two go away.

Click on again and nothing happens ...

@MochiMoppel

You may want to look at this script.

Maybe you and nik120s can work together on something very very good for a Rox file manger display.

Re: BIOS Boot Menu Keeps Changing

If your computer's BIOS (or UEFI firmware) is listing USB boot devices that are no longer attached, it usually indicates that those devices were previously connected and recognized, and their boot entries were stored in non-volatile memory.

Why This Happens
Persistent Boot Entries: Some BIOS/UEFI ...

What about a pet package is no longer usable for 2025?

So far I have had no real issues installing pet packages into any of the latest puppy version.

Pet packages, just like any Linux software packages (deb, etc...) are dependent on being compiled to work in the specific Linux OS.

So even pet ...

I suggest changing the files name to roxrox just because it identifies it better for what it is.

I changed the MARGINR=0 (# distance from right screen edge) to MARGINR=900

The big issue with multiple OS's on a single USB stick is getting the boot loader to have a good entry to boot Puppy.

The boot loaders that Puppy installs that are provided in a Puppy version try to find all that is on a drive and setup the correct entries for all.

But they do have to be run from ...

What tool did you use?

easydd v5

I tried a completely fresh new install.

This time woofwoof worked for the password.

But it still only boots to this point.

The first rule of designing, making anything.

If it never fails.

They will only buy it one time!

Rule 2.
How long should it be before it fails and not make people to never want to buy it again?

So is a Puppy version now able to read and write to the floppies?
