Re: seed4me vpn+fossapup

Proton VPN have a good reputation as far as I know. Their free service is popular so servers are often busy or under heavy load, but they have always worked OK whenever I have tried them. I don't know seed4me VPN. Do they have a client for Linux which they want you to use, is it CLI or a GUI? If ...

Re: Latest Firefox for Precise?

Okay, sounds like something is at least trying to start up but no go. Lots of GTK3 errors so maybe the package I have installed is not quite up to it. Do you have a GTK3 package that will work? I should clarify that I have NOT been able to get latest firefox to run in Precise, but I have not tried ...

Re: Latest Firefox for Precise?

You will need to add libatomic which is not available for Precise but you can grab one from a later Ubuntu distro such as Trusty Tahr and use it in Precise.

Simple VPN implementation for FossaPup

Treat as experimental and use at your own risk, but I have been using it regularly for a long time without any observed problems in my everyday Pups. I have assembled a version of my Simple VPN implementation which I named "vpn-onoff". It is based around openvpn-2.4.10 compiled from source in ...

Should package "neon" be in Slackware Pup devx?

Not an urgent issue, but I have been looking at Slacko 7.0 and ScPup and the package "neon" which is really just a library (libneon) is listed as devx-only and is present in the devx, but it has a missing dependency libproxy and even if you add libproxy there is a missing libmozjs185 which is not ...

Re: How do I change the DNS in Simple Network Setup

As I understand it, the official position regarding Simple Network Setup is that it is intended to be "simple", which means it works for establishing a connection with the minimum need for user input. Because of this, it lacks certain features such as the facility to set static LAN IP and manual ...

Re: Weird output when compiling - ScPup64 upgraded to 21.04+0

I believe I have found the fix. Execute the script /etc/file/recompile_magic.mgc.sh This creates the compiled data file /etc/file/magic.mgc Descriptions of file contents in ROX then appear as they should Compiling output then looks as normal Step 5 Processing /usr/include/libmms/mms_config.h ...

Weird output and descriptions - ScPup64 upgraded to 21.04+0 (Fix Found)

I am getting some very strange output when compiling. Re: Slackware Pups and audacious

I think this is one of those examples of where installing via PPM in Puppy is not the ideal way. I took a look at ScPup32 (which I had easily to hand) and PPM offers audacious version 3.7.2 but it ends up missing a few things eg neon which is needed for network streaming and stuff. Also we don't ...

Re: NOOooo..... devx missing header files

Just wanted to mention that the ScPups (32 and 64) are a bit different from most others in that they have a small kernel_headers .SFS available from the standard download location. You can load this along with the devx if it is required and then often the kernel_sources .SFS is not needed. For some ...

Re: Run ImageMagick in BionicPup64 ?

The problem may be arising from the fact that Ubuntu and Debian have a policy of splitting up packages into smaller packages of different names. The convert executable is included in a package named graphicsmagick-imagemagick-compat so you should try installing that via PPM. I have never tried to ...

Thanks for the additional information. I am not familiar with the BullseyePup64 of which you speak. Must take a look at it when I get the chance. Re: Icons changed in Palemoon after installing Netsurf

What is the Puppy you are running in which you have observed this? I have never known it to happen and it should not, unless somehow the icons in the package are named so that they overwrite the palemoon icons. Also, can you specify exactly which icons (or where) have been changed. If it is the ...

Re: A slight annoyance with Python install setup

The prefix /usr/local is set as default within the source code, but the idea is that the builder (person compiling) should configure the prefix in accordance with the objectives. It is fairly common (certainly in Puppy) for original system files to be under /usr and for packages installed from ...

In some of my remasters of Puppies (eg Wheezy and Stretch) I have added MIME types for a few specific file extensions such as .opus (audio files) and .webp (image files). All you have to do is add a few lines of code to the file /usr/share/mime/packages/puppy.xml Define the mime types like this ...
