Re: Corepup - a minimalist modular system

hi all

take a look at dcore stretch
if some of the gurus would focus their genius there
great things would be accomplished

symlinks to a ramdrive
makes bundles of debian apps and dependencies

Re: an improvement to puppy

hi 243a once you begin experimenting with using symlinks instead of unionfs you will see how much better the system is many many advantages no whiteout files no need for the processor to reconcile the layers ability to load and unload compressed and uncompressed folders without rebooting etc etc etc ...

Poem: An Improvement To Puppy

Re: Corepup - a minimalist modular system

can you compare your system to this it seems as i am reading your posts that you variably compile/add many components to the kernel and initrd rather than keeping them separate as extensions also did you say your system was taken from pieces of fatdog does it use puppy sfs files or pets wanderer

hi rufwoof corepup/tinycore/dcore consists of 4 components 1 bootloader 2 kernel 3 initrd 4 compressed extensions the extensions are loaded using symlinks and can be many small individual pieces as in tinycore or large bundles of dependencies supporting an app as in dcore corepup also uses a simple ...

Re: Corepup - a minimalist modular system

Re: Corepup - a minimalist modular system

here is an interesting thing you can do with symlinks let us say you have a folder with an app in it named app1 (for example in home) and you symlink it to root / it is now mounted if you change the name of the folder to another name say app1x the symlinks cannot find it and it is now unmounted if ...

Re: Corepup - a minimalist modular system

with corepup/tinycore/dcore the symlink system is one of the great strengths of this system it is much more robust and flexible than the union file system since it has no overhead another great strength is having the ramdrive be the root filesystem and having extensions symlinked into it so at ...

Re: universal package manager/maker

so my universal package manager

is to use uextract to extract it into a folder
and then squash it into an sfs file
(maybe rename it tcz for corepup/tinycore)

or leave it as an uncompressed folder
and symlink it using the copy command

sometimes it works

pretty advanced
