Am I right in thinking that anyone who wants to view your HTM file needs to have this installed.....or is it only used to actually generate the HTM file? In other words, the HTM file can be viewed anywhere, by anybody, and 'aha' won't be needed in order to view it?

you are right, missing icons and menu entries are easy to fix.

PCManFM is able to mount/unmount devices and to connect to samba share

I did a short test with the installed PCManFM (gtk)
The menu has multiple entries for PCManFM
please have a look at /etc/xdg/menus/hierarchy and update the desktop file

the menu entry of PCManFM has no icon
update the desktop ...

usualy we put the firmware into fdrv but this is not mandatory.
In your case into fdrv_slackex_24.10.sfs
If you want to add firmware afterward extract the fdrv_slackex_24.10.sfs and put the firmware files into fdrv_slackex_24.10 folder.
Use the same folder structure as the original firmware ...

1. öffne den Dateimanager "Icon mit dem Haus"
2. klicke auf das Auge in der Menüleiste des Dateimanager Fensters (versteckte Dateien werden nun angezeigt)
3. lösche die Datei .retrovolrc
4. navigiere im Menü zu Setup -> Alsa Sound Wizard (anklicken)
5. es öffnet sich das Fenster "Sound Wizard ...

you need not create a package of each language. ;-)
a couple of years ago I wrote a little script.
This is detecting the seamonkey version, downloads the desired language package and installed the xpi file.

how to use
seamonkey must be installed of course
the .mozilla folder must ...

I don't want to hijack the thread but I would like to show you an alternatively way because you are using audacious.
It's not needed to have the audacious version with included streamtuner support because it's very simple to create a playlist ...

no problem for audacious but you will need the version with enabled streamripper support. ( this feature is experimental and disabled by default )
All versions of audacious in SLC64 and SLK64 have been compiled with streamripper support enabled. This feature is working without problems ...
