thank you for report.
The package manager issue is rather old and has nothing to do with a certain package or distro.
Example:
a package example-1.0.pet is installed on the system ( ppm will show example-1.0.pet installed )
if a new version of this pet is available e.g. example-2.0 ...

You did an installation of windows-xp in virtualbox.
After successful installation you safed a copy as virtual disk image [ vdi ].

If you try to load this vdi ( after power down of your computer ) it fails.
Is this correct?

Does your vdi image contain two files ...

als SLK64 erstellt wurde, war Seamonkey 2.53.16 die zu diesen Zeitpunkt aktuelle Version.
Im Laufe der Zeit werden die Browser so wie alle anderen Programme auch aktualisiert.
Um auf dem aktuellen Stand zu bleiben haben kluge Menschen den Paketmanager gebastelt, um Programme auch installieren ...

did a 2nd test of virtualbox 6.1.22 and matching kernel module package k5.4.53 under Fossapup64 just right now.
works out of the box for me

after that load the virtualbox SFS
all needed services will be started automatically

mit dem steinalten grob4dos kann es durchaus Probleme geben.
Nutze stattdessen besser eine grub2 Variante.
Bitte gehe folgendermaßen vor, um die Distribution auf einen USB Stick zu installieren:

1. öffne den Dateimanager Rox-Filer
2. gehe in das Verzeichnis ...

Vielleicht weiß es Jemand, wie man Fortran oder Basic (eins von Beiden) auf Puppy zum Laufen bringt.

Die meisten Entwicklerprogramme befinden sich im zur Distribution gehörenden DEVX sfs.
Fortran kannst Du bei Slackware basierenden Distros über den Paketmanager installieren .

I built a package of the latest displaylink driver under SLK64 ( Slackware 15.0 ) from source.
Unbelievable but I got it to work.
The creating of this driver package is an absolutely nightmare.

The ubuntu driver packages won't help you along because you need the evdi kernelmodule exactly ...

Am I right in thinking that anyone who wants to view your HTM file needs to have this installed.....or is it only used to actually generate the HTM file? In other words, the HTM file can be viewed anywhere, by anybody, and 'aha' won't be needed in order to view it?

you are right, missing icons and menu entries are easy to fix.

I have to disagree
PCManFM is able to mount/unmount devices and to connect to samba share

I did a short test with the installed PCManFM (gtk)
The menu has multiple entries for PCManFM
please have a look at /etc/xdg/menus/hierarchy and update the desktop file

the menu entry of PCManFM has no icon
update the desktop ...

usualy we put the firmware into fdrv but this is not mandatory.
In your case into fdrv_slackex_24.10.sfs
If you want to add firmware afterward extract the fdrv_slackex_24.10.sfs and put the firmware files into fdrv_slackex_24.10 folder.
Use the same folder structure as the original firmware ...

2. klicke auf das Auge in der Menüleiste des Dateimanager Fensters (versteckte Dateien werden nun angezeigt)
3. lösche die Datei .retrovolrc
4. navigiere im Menü zu Setup -> Alsa Sound Wizard (anklicken)
