Re: Broadcom WL drivers

@fbagnato - that message is usually due to a bootloader mismatch - possibly looking for an efi file on a non-efi system. It won't cause harm.

Re: Broadcom WL drivers

@fbagnato - you should have only 1 active initrd line - so place # to the left of the old one. Not sure what the auto-install microcode will do. Nice to see you're progressing well.

Re: Fossa64-Less - a small pup with many features

FloraMae - I have discovered this is a permissions issue. Strange that this did not affect the gtk2 version. If Palemoon (gtk3) is run as root (rather than default as spot), all icons appear. To run as root - see bottom of 1st post OR do this: in filemanager, go into /opt/palemoon64 & drag pale...

Re: Broadcom WL drivers

fbagnato - I state many options for users of my kernels. User have different setups. I make different types - non-usrmerge slacko derivative is what you want for s15pup64. You would rename kernel-modules.sfs... to zdrv_s15pup64_22.12.sfs . The punionfs=overlay is only used if you want to run overla...

Re: Fossa64-Less - a small pup with many features

@FloraMae - interesting. I hadn't noticed that when I switched from gtk2 to gtk3 palemoon. Hovering a mouse over unlabelled icons identifies them. Doesn't affect operation, but is untidy. Can't see an easy fix.

Re: Broadcom WL drivers

fbagnato - my kernel 5.15.148 is a usrmerge-only kernel. It is not for s15pup64 - need to use my 5.15.147 for that (see: https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=113087#p113087 ). Kernels must match exactly - you can't use one with the same number from a different source. The wl module for my 5...

Fossa64-Less - v5 released

v5 released - 08May2024 - updated Palemoon browser, poorercputemp & some small additions.
No ydrv - all my additions are in puppy sfs.
This should be the final release, as I've achieved my original aim & the code base is ageing.
See 1st post.

Australia going Big Bro?

I hesitate to raise this, as there are good reasons to try to protect the vulnerable & over 2 dozen women have been murdered this year in oz in domestic violence. I think this goes too far. A research paper prepared by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety, which is helpi...

Re: Inspired By Something that Makes Sense here's F96-CE_5-alpha3

@Jasper - for a generic fdrv, only /lib/firmware should exist (/usr/lib/firmware if usrmerge), however, bookwormpup64's fdrv also has microcode included.

@Jasper - if you make it an fdrv .sfs, could compress to about 180mb.

Re: Changing/swapping kernels?

Jasper - my kernels are suited to generic puppies. Vanilladpup is configured for Debian, so don't mix them. As dimkr says, there are many ways to misconfigure kernels. I know the day is coming when my configs won't cut it - actually thought it had happened a year ago, but with older mainline pups s...

Re: Inspired By Something that Makes Sense here's F96-CE_5-alpha3

@vtpup - ok, would you post a copy of the 6.1.8 DOTconfig please? (hopefully, is under /boot, as config-...). Then I can try to make you a later kernel based on that. Perhaps pm it to me, as it might be a bit off topic here.

Re: Inspired By Something that Makes Sense here's F96-CE_5-alpha3

vtpup - WOW! - I'm used to seeing around 40 lines in lsmod - you have 194! Dozens of those are drivers I've never seen. I could try to incorporate them into a kernel, but it's going to take ages to sift them. Therein lies the challenge for kernel compilers. Seriously, have to say I think at this st...

@vtpup - would be good to know what drivers you need, so would you please boot up Mint & in a terminal run:
lsmod > /mintmods.txt

& attach that file here.

Re: DistroWatch needs a newer Puppy version listed for Puppy Linux!!!!!

wanderer - good idea, though I'm beginning to wonder after reading all the above if we can find something to upload. Everything seems to have it's drawbacks & lots of work needed to remedy that. I'm beginning to think F96CE-5 (with apt) may be the best interim option. Vanilladpup is probably ne...

Re: aufs future

@peebee - I used gcc 11.2 (s15pup64-231209) with my 5.15.150 failure, which was then ok to make 5.15.148 usrmerge kernel. I mostly use 10.2 (ScPup64_20.01), for compatibility with oldish pups.

Re: aufs future

BarryK - yes, 5.15.150 failed for me. I made overlay-only 5.15.155, so definitely an aufs problem, which sfjro said he won't fix for 5.x. Best hope is that some of the Porteus boffins, who found the 6.6.4 fix (which was then ratified by sfjro). For aufs, 5.15.147 & 148 are the last I successful...

mikewalsh - for those who don't like the idea of usrmerge, there is always Slackware - but for puppy, that necessitates building/rebuilding compliant packages, which will only become more difficult as time goes on as folk here like modern packages. Slackware has a fairly limited set of packages, ev...

Re: What is 'usrmerge'

@Chelsea80 - ah - I re-read your initial post - you were ENQUIRING about Noblepup, not actually running it, whilst you use bionicpup (non-usrmerge). Your Firefox SFS (above) should work in both.

Re: What is 'usrmerge'

@Chelsea80 - the bin & lib in your example are under the /usr folder, so that is fine for usrmerge.
What is not fine for usrmerge, is if they are in the main primary folder ( / ).

Re: What is 'usrmerge'

Chelsea80 - To hopefully simplify, the general key factor is - Does the SFS contain ANY of /bin , /lib , /lib32 , /lib64 , /sbin folders? (You can click on SFS in File manager & check). If yes, sfs cannot be used in usrmerge. If no, it can. My Firefox.sfs use /opt & /usr/local/bin & thu...

6.6.25 64bit USRMERGE LOW-LATENCY Kernel Aufs/Overlayfs

I made a 64bit 6.6.25 2018 KIT USRMERGE LOW-LATENCY kernel . Has Overlayfs and Aufs builtin. This has Full Preemption & Frequency at 1000Hz. It is noticeably more responsive than standard kernels. Is for Jammypup64 & Bookwormpup64 (USRMERGE Pups). NOT for fossapup, s15pup & earlier. To u...

@boof - re- ring time. I know 'Belong' (Australia) have a long code to dial in & increase ringtime from 15 to 30 sec. Other providers may have similar. It is possible to get a lanyard phone-holder if that would help.

As long as folk are led to understand that the Bookworms are usrmerge & old .pets could be incompatible, I think we should put the Bookworms on DW AND more prominently on puppylinux.com.

@Jasper - unfortunately, the rtl & wl wifi drivers are extras to 5.x kernels. They are both .pets in the forum Drivers section though.
