Firefox 113.. What are your oppinions?

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

I just updated my firefox to the last version, because I read really good oppinions about it.

FASTER, FASTER, FASTER.... do you think / know it is real?

You can read a lot of posts about this speed at:

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/commen ... ch_faster/

https://blog.mozilla.org/accessibility/ ... rformance/

https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevenaqui ... 13-update/

and much more... but... What is your oppinion?

Thanks a lot for your comments.-

I don't know. I'll try it out before I reach my own opinion. But I've been cautious since Palemoon mucked up an update, and especially cautious since to update Chrome required AR to be present on my system and having forgotten (I do that sometimes :oops: ) 'updating' it 'nuked' it. :roll:

Since then, as I use Mikewalsh's portables, I take this precaution: Right-Click the portable's folder and from the pop-up menu select 'duplicate' and give the duplicate the name ending in -O (for old). I can then safely update the original. If there's a problem, I can delete that portable's folder and rename the duplicates to not have the '-O'. If, after testing, I'm satisfied I can delete the folder containing the old version.

There's not much in it, TBH. It's probably fair to say that ALL current, modern browsers are steadily becoming more efficient as time goes by.

Firefox and Chromium have both had their spells of memory leakage AND periods of "bloat" over the years. The Chromium Project finally got the worst of their bloat under control with the introduction of what they call "Lazy loading", where the browser only loads the part of any given webpage that appears within the browser window AS it approaches it. It then unloads it again as soon as you've scrolled past it.

This has cut down Chromium's memory usage by an impressive 30%.....IF you can believe the Project's claims, that is! :D

Hi @mikeslr , I do the same, but I added another "security level".- I created a distribution folder, with a json file in it dissablint autoupdate, so I am the one who choose when and how to update no FF.-

Code: Select all

{
  "policies": {
	"DisableAppUpdate": true
	}
}

It could be a subjective sensation, but FF works nice for me... and I solved some problems with my slimjet 39 and It has a faster startup (basically I deleted ,not only dissabled, dozens of extensions, and I only have lastpass and fasterweb (this one I don't know if works or not, but ,as I said before, it gives me some "speed sensation" when turning into red..hahhah

Thanks a lot for your answers.- CHEERS

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu ... lla-build/
I download any version from here and extract it with uEXtract or pExtract

opt/firefox/distribution/ policies.json and distribution.ini

Everyone can organize them in their own way according to these examples:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Global]
id=MX-Linux
version=1.0
about=Updates will come through your package manager
about.en-US=Updates will come through your package manager

# This section contains the global js prefs. You do should not list
# the localized preferences here (see below)

# Boolean preferences should be 'true' or 'false', w/o quotes. e.g.:
# my.bool.preference=true
#
# Integer preferences should be unquoted numbers. e.g.:
# my.int.preference=123
#
# String preferences should be in quotes. e.g.:
# my.string.preference="foo"

[Preferences]
mozilla.partner.id="mx-linux"
app.distributor="mx-linux"
app.distributor.channel=
browser.search.distributionID="mxlinux.org"
browser.search.searchEnginesURL=
browser.search.defaultenginename=
app.update.enabled=false
extensions.update.enabled=true
intl.locale.matchOS=true
browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser=false
browser.newtabpage.enhanced=false
intl.locale.requested=""

# This section is used as a template for locale-specific properties
# files. They work similarly to the GlobalPrefs section, except that
# the %LOCALE% string gets substituted with the language string.
#
# This section should only be used for localized string preferences.
# Other preference types will not work.

[LocalizablePreferences]
browser.startup.homepage="https://mxlinux.org/mx-linux-blog/"

# This section is an example of an override for a particular locale.
# The override sections do not interpolate %LOCALE% into strings.
# Preferences set in override sections are *merged* with the
# localizable defaults. That is, if you want a pref in
# [LocalizablePreferences] to not be set in a particular locale,
# you'll need to unset it explicitly ("pref.name=" on a line of its
# own).

[LocalizablePreferences-en-US]
browser.foo="mx-linux"

# Search Plugins

# Search plugins do no need to be listed in this ini file. Instead,
# create a directory structure like the following, and they will be
# automatically loaded:

# * distribution/
# * searchplugins/
# * common/
# * <plugin.xml>
# * <plugin.xml>
# * ...
# * locale/
# * <locale>/
# * <plugin.xml>
# * <plugin.xml>
# * ...
# * <locale>/
# * <plugin.xml>
# * <plugin.xml>
# * ...

# If a directory for the locale the browser is running in doesn't
# exist, Firefox will automatically try the 'default' locale, as defined
# by the distribution.searchplugins.defaultLocale preference.

# Bookmarks

# There are two "toplevel" sections, BookmarksToolbar and BookmarksMenu.
# These can reference other sections via the "folder" type item. These
# folder sections must be named "BookmarksFolder-<id>".

# Each section contains a list of numbered item settings, where each
# item represents a bookmark, livemark, separator, folder, or the default
# bookmarks in that container (if any). The default type is bookmark.
#
# Since Firefox 45, it's possible to set an optional keyword or favicon
# for a bookmark.

FF112 is in the O-pi5b and it runs fast (opens in 3-5 seconds). In my case, the uSd card determines the operating speed. As a comparison, FF78.15.esr in a 1st gen. Atom CPU takes 40-45 seconds to load.

Money talks... no, it shouts, so that it doesn't have to hear common sense.
