Had same issue last week. Shrank the file some more and converted to .jpg. Finally took it when I used drag & drop to attach.

Yeh tried dragging but no go . Seems to hang up halfway there and slows right down then gives a hppt error message.

Its png because I indexed it to shrink it before reducing the display size also as per previous recommendations.

Open the image file in MtPaint
Select image->Scale Canvas....
Set the width to no larger than 700.
The height will auto adjust, so do not need to change that.

Any help?

@bigpup

Went back to the file I had trouble attaching:

desktop2.png = 384k, 600x450 will not attach, msg = The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 512 KiB.

desktop.jpg = 169k, 1024x768 attaches without problems

Something besides width going on.

Thanks

I know 700 width, is not the limit, but for sure, it should attach.
This was more of a test, to see what you get.

You were just attaching one single image?
Nothing else being attached?

I can not reproduce your problem, with any .png images, around the same size as yours.

Maybe something wrong with the compression of the .png image :idea:

In MtPaint
File->Save as...
File Format
If png is selected. There are some options for setting the compression used.

I do find it better to just use .jpg images.
Seems they have little trouble attaching.

What browser are you using?

I am using Firefox.

I wouldn't think the browser could cause this, but who knows.
Those things are constantly being changed on how they work.

Maybe it is UN-compressing the .png image, before it sends it to the forum, to attach. :idea:
That would make the image seem to big to the forum.

yes

File->Save as...
File Format

yes

My original image: desktop.png = 960k, 1024x768 was a screenshot created with Take A Shot.
Opened in mtpaint and resized to desktop2.png as above. When that didn't attach, used mtpaint
to save original as desktop.jpg.

Thanks

For what it's worth I've always had the same issue, only I don't get an error message, just a gray box in the post. It's because I've had problems with png's and gif's that I always use https://postimages.org/ to add images to the forum.

In fact I just tried yesterday to add an icon directly to the Show Us Your Desktop thread, and came up with the same results.

@bigpup

What browser are you using?

Firefox 90

I wondered the same thing about the compression being a factor.

And why don't a lot of people use .gif format to place pictures? It is almost as clear as .png, and often smaller in size. The shade of the color changes slightly, but it is not critical and not everyone can see it.

Fossapup OS, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 64 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, Sound Blaster Audigy Rx with amplifier + Yamaha speakers for loud sound, USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro V3 + headphones for quiet sound.

No I reduce all pics to 600 x 800 , the 800 comes automatically . So these were indexed first ti limit colours used and then resized to reduce file size . Thats why its a png ending.

I use Opera browser

Thinking about that maybe the 800 high causes it? Ill try.
Yes I think that is it. At 600 x 450 it went up fine. It didn't spin the pic .
The dimensions must have a limit maybe a pixel limit we need to know?

I find @666philb approach to bugfixes a reasonable approach as implemented in @FossaPUP64 and prior.

Can this be similarly implemented in other WoofCE products versus new ISO file (i.e. new ISO versions) approaches for distro fixes?

Can this implementation be submitted to WoofCE development?

rockedge is the one to deal with this.
He is the only one with control of this part of the forum.
We will see what he comes up with.

Clarity,
sure you posted in the correct topic?
This is a forum issue, not a Puppy OS issue.
