Firefox ESR 64bit ALSA

Post by ozsouth »

Firefox ESR 64 bit ver 91.10.0 - from Debian Buster site, compiled with --enable-alsa.
Plays sound/video with NO APULSE NEEDED.
(If source .deb structure changes, OR user interest is low, future versions may not happen).

Thanks to user m-cuda for pointing me to this. Use at own risk. ISSUED AS RUN-AS-SPOT.

- Briefly tested OK in Fossapup64-9.5, Imppup64-9.6.1, Jammypup64-9.7b, ScPup64-22.02, ScPup64-21.04,
& ScPup64-20.06. WILL NOT WORK ON pre-2020 PUPS, due to Debian Buster requirements (glibc_2.28+).
(Note: support for previous version Debian Stretch ends June 2022).

To install, first remove any other firefox, then click on .pet in ROX-Filer. Will set entry in Internet menu, and become
default browser (when asked 'make default browser' upon first start, say 'yes' to stop message showing on each startup).

Is here: https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... -91100.pet

ScPup64 needs gtk3 - is here: https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... 2404.7.pet

Hello, ozsouth!

Thank you for your pet for Firefox ESR 78.15.0 64bit! It works perfectly with Puppy Tahr 6.0.6 64bit. However, please let me ask you, how do I update your Firefox ESR 78.15.0 64bit to Firefox ESR 91.4.1 64bit (latest as of December 2021)?

Happy Holidays!

@Disco Makberto - that Debian version hasn't been updated for months, so I've given up waiting.
In this forum section, I have made a Firefox ESR 64bit updater. I now use that myself.

Hi, ozsouth!

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I tried your Firefox ESR 64bit updater ( firefoxesr64u2.pet ). It installs in Puppy Linux 6.0.6 64bit, and I was able to update to Firefox ESR 94.4.1 64bit However, as far I can see and test, this Firefox doesn't work with Alsa. Could you please let me know if there is a way to make it compatible with Alsa like the Firefox ESR 78.15.0 64bit was?

Take care,

Carlos Albert

@Disco Makberto - firefox has to be compiled with alsa enabled. I'm not sure how to do that,
as there are many options. The Debian testing version (bookworm) is current, but
I'm unsure of dependencies and you would still need to load/unload new versions.
I find fossapup64's apulse works well with my updater.
I mostly use my chromebook (ChromeOS) these days, as its updates are not such a pain.

Hi again, ozsouth!

As I told you before, the Debian version (your firefox-esr64-daas-78150.pet) is compatible out of the box with Puppy Linux 6.0.6 64bit, so it works without any dependencies.

What do you mean by "load/unload new versions"? Do you mean installing future Debian versions on top of the 78150? I have done that before (non-ESR, though).

I am glad you are enjoying your ChromeOS.

Take care,

Hello, ozsouth!

Thank you very much for your firefox-esr64-daas-9141.pet with Alsa suppport. This works perfectly with Puppy Linux 6.0.6 64bit.

Ozsouth, I understand that you now use your Firefox updater with Apulse-only support. However, if you ever find a way to update firefox-esr64-daas-9141 when updating time comes, please let us know. I wish that you Firefox updater were capable of updating the daas versions.

@Disco Makberto - I have tested the attached apulse .pet (parts from bionic64) in tahrpup64-6.0.6,
with my Firefox ESR 64 v3 updater. For me, it works, and may mean you no longer need the alsa version,
which will soon be unavailable. I am posting this from the first-mentioned combo.
Please try that combination. Download the .pet and click on it in ROX-Filer. Use at own risk.
