Thunar file manager in JammyPup32, how can I make it see and mount external drives?

Post by grey38 »

Hello again. I user here suggested I use JammyPup32 for a project I am working on and I am thankful for that because I am liking it a lot so far. However, while the Rox file manager is fine I also wanted to include Thunar file manager because it has a bunch of extra features I want.

However, an issue with Thunar I have found on a couple different Puppys I've tried (including Jammy) is that Thunar can't actually see any other file system other than the one that makes up the host Puppy OS file system stored in RAM. The host systems drive doesn't show up in the side panel like hwo one would normally see it. And if I plug in any other drives to the host machine those also don't show up in Thunar. They do course show up as an icon on the desktop which you can open in Rox, but even after opening them in Rox they cannot be seen of accessed by Thunar.

I thought that maybe Thunar has some separate piece to it that would be required to actually browse files on drives and not just the Puppy OS file system in RAM so I looked in the PPM again and I did actually find a Thunar related package with a description that said something like "This is the package needed to allow Thunar to control volumes" so I installed that and then tried plugging in different drives. It still didn't work. And it still can't see the hosts system drive.

Welp, I did give it a try. Do any of you know what Thunar needs to be able to actually view files on drives? I can't figure out what I am missing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for reading.

With "pup-volume-monitor" it works ok for me on Jammy32 :
Install pup-volume-monitor : https://github.com/doglinux/bullseye/ra ... 3_i386.deb and dependency libudev0 : https://github.com/doglinux/bullseye/ra ... 3_i386.deb
For me a reboot was required to show the drives (on left pane) in Thunar.

Okay! This seems like the answer I really needed! Thank you for that. Problem is that what I'm working on is a remaster, so all changes are kind of made live, so I can't really reboot and check if it works. I'll have to try to install both of those packages and then make a new .ISO, boot from it, and see if it works. I'll try this later. Thank you so very much.
